Next on the agenda: The "Deficit Commission". . .

Is it time for more "consensus", or is it time to heed Harry Truman?

Which route will lead to a desirable future?

I've seen it happen time after time. When the Democratic candidate allows himself to be put on the defensive and starts apologizing for the New Deal and the fair Deal, and says he really doesn't believe in them, he is sure to lose. The people don't want a phony Democrat. If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don't want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign. - Harry S. Truman, 1952 speaking to a National Convention banquet of the Americans for Democratic Action.

1. Will Obama stand up to the Deficient Commission?
Will the Senate.

If they cave, bye bye Democratic Party.

2. Since the Commission is purely a creation of Obama...
I'm thinking it's going to do exactly what he wanted - so why would he stand up to it?

3. I have been solemnly assured here at DU
That the Catfood Commission co-chaired by Alan Simpson wouldn't dare touch social security. I think that's a load of bullshit, but there are folks who firmly believe that.
