How about some perspective, folks?
Let's look at history:

Bush Administration: two wars, squandered surplus, both houses and the courts controlled by right wingers.

Clinton Administration: A repug Congress impeaching a sitting President over NOTHING.

Reagan and Bush I: The destruction of government and social welfare as we knew it.

Nixon and Vietnam: 58,000+ American soldiers killed, National Guardsmen shooting U.S. students on their college campus.

Sixties: Riots. Assassinations. The Kennedys. Martin Luther King.

Fifties: Joe McCarthy. U.S. citizens went to jail for their political beliefs. The Red Scare.

Forties: World War. Hitler. At one point it looked as if we were going to lose.

Thirties: The Great Depression. People starving. Jobless. Utter devastation.

Robber barons/bankers. Joblessness. Slave wages. 16 hour work days. Civil rights a joke. Actual slaves. Tobacco plantations.

I could keep going, but what's the point? We LOST THE HOUSE in Congress yesterday, giving back pretty much what we gained in 2006 and 2008. Don't even PRETEND that this is somehow the worst thing that's ever happened to us. That notion is simply ridiculous.

1. I haven't seen anyone say this is the worse thing that has
ever happened to us.

I have seen many lament the loss of the greatest opportunity of a generation.

2. Wisdom.
You speak it.

We have a president who will almost certainly see a second term, we still have the Senate, and there's an election in two years to regain some electoral momentum.

We tighten our shoelaces, gulp some Gatorade, and get back in the race!

3. Try factoring in Citizens United...the Fascists won and there is no way to craft legislation that
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 12:24 PM by blm
that could counter Citizens United. Period. The Global Fascists won the day Citizens United was decided by the fascist Supremes.

7. Meg Whitman and the right flooded California
with money and ads, outspending Brown by MILLIONS of dollars, and they still didn't win.

They flooded Nevada with money and still didn't win. Etc.

Yes, it's terrible, but we can fight it.

9. This country is made of many smaller media markets - THAT is where Citizens United wins.
That will keep it for them. Who do you think corporate media is/will be working for? The powers that sign their paychecks or the working class trying to keep their families fed and sheltered?

5. Some claim that losing the House and keeping the Senate is "worst" than 94 when we lost both.
It doesn't make logical sense. McConnell is still minority leader. Crazy shit coming out of the house will never make it to the Senate floor. They cannot overcome Obama's veto power.

No it isn't great. Great would be to have retained the house.

11. We blew the best numbers we've had in decades.
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 12:43 PM by TexasObserver
Our party, led by our president, blew the biggest political opportunity we have had in over 30 years. We had a mandate and the numbers to make it stick, but our president offered weak, equivocating leadership, and as a result, he allowed the GOP to stave off the change on which he ran.

His failure and that of congressional Democrats to deliver on the promise of hope and change is why we got our asses kicked Tuesday. How he could see the unemployment approaching ten percent and still get suckered into pursuing "deficit reduction" as a topic is but one mystery of his undoing.

This is a mess he made on his time.
