I do realize that not all Boomers voted GOP, indeed, there are many whose fight has not wavered from 1967, and believe it or not, I thank you. This is NOT going to be a hippy punching post by any stretch.

But to all the Bommers that did vote GOP, I must heap curses upon them.

I am sorry to say this, but a lot of those Seniors are indeed of the Boomer age group. Yes, i realize that many are hippies still fighting the good fight, but we cannot deny that there are too many people WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER VOTING GOP!

about are the parents of those boomers. I spent time with (my very democratic) 86 year old mom, and most of the people in her senior complex are all poor and republican.

This makes me laugh for one reason. My late father who was a Democrat had a saying that went along with his definition of Republicans.

He used to say that he could never understand Republicans because they "Never have a god damned thing!" ;)

23% of those who voted were over 65. Of those, 58 percent identified as Republican and 40 percent as Democrats.

Only 11% of those who voted were under 30. Of those, 40 percent identified as Republican and 56 percent as Democrats. If more young people had voted, things would have been different. So blame young people for staying home.

Why not blame the 30-44 age group? More of them who voted are Republican, not Democrats (50-47). Or the 45-64 group (52 R to 46 D).

Democrats at all age levels over 30 were a smaller portion of the voting public yesterday than Republicans.

So do the math, and stop blaming old people.

and I have no doubt it is true. Few of the young people in the college town I live in seem to care about politics at all. That said, even fewer knew who was running for governor of the Golden State. That alone is frightening to know, especially after the recall of Gray Davis and after that too long of a time with Schwarzenegger. :puke:

That's pathetically poor reasoning.

The over 65 group represented 23% of voters (58% voting Republican). The 45-64 group represented almost double that percentage of voters, 44% (and voted 52% Republican). So, for every 100 voters, say, seniors provided 13.3 votes for Republicans; the middle-agers provided 22.8 votes for Republicans. (The 30-44 age range was 22% of the electorate, so their 50% R-voting rate would yield Republicans another 11 votes per 100. Oddly, you'd think the Dems would therefore get the other 50% of that age range's vote, another 11 votes--but they did not vote for Dems at 50%, only 47%. This occurred in each of the other over-30 age ranges, due to third party voting).

Because they vote in smaller numbers, seniors were not the only, nor main culprits here. They hurt, but they are not the only boogie man.

If 18-29 year olds had done better than turning out more than the 11% of the electorate they did, THEN then some races might have been different. They are the only group who voted more Democratic than Republican and had a chance to make an impact (though still only a surprising 60%). No wonder Obama focused almost exclusively on them by touring college campuses these last weeka. If they had voted at the same rate as seniors--that is, the way they voted in 2008-- a lot of close races would have swung the other way. It's really all about turnout. We got the lowest turnout from the age range that supports us most. It was a killer.

The oldest boomer has not hit 65 yet.

are - those born between 1945 and 1965 (or 1960, depending on who's figuring). Do the math - the oldest boomers are just turning 65, so not those over 65 you are attempting to demonize.

If you have to place blame...and there is plenty of that to go around...then blame Pelosi/Hoyer for taking everything important off the table. Reid for playing senate clown and our more recent head of state for his crummy appointments(Rahm and Duncan)plus keeping all the Bush turkeys in place.

Of course, many indies chose not to stay with their democratic party. Many greens chose to be purists. Many many young voters choose to party and study and not to pay attention--this was not a fun happening like a primary.

Now, our turn to be the party of NO. Think we will? Don't hold yer breath.
