1. Chafee will govern as a progressive.

It does seem that in Maine, the Democrat was in third as well, and was effectively the spoiler to a progressive of sorts winning.

3. Caprio screwed up
I think a lot of Dems ended up voting for the moderate party guy (he got 6%) or undervoted. I don't know how Robitaille picked up any anti-"shove it" votes......

5. Caprio reportedly met with the GOP and considered changing parties early this year.
I'm pretty sure Rhode Island Democrats weren't enamored with that.

Party affiliation aside, Rhode Island voters elected the most progressive candidate on the ballot.

11.  Chafee is more of a Democrat than Caprio...
How about paying attention.

12. Chafee voted against the IWR
And is light years better than Lieberman or Ben Nelson. He would still be a senator if he changed parties.

16. Maybe
I still doubt he would have beaten Sheldon Whitehouse in a primary, who IS a real Democrat.

6. Good. At least the R didn't win
Too bad we couldn't have achieved this result in Florida and got a Tea Bagger.

7. Chafee, the last of the reasonable Republicans.
Ostracized from his party for that very fact.

I'm thrilled for him and RI.

14. Chafee is not a republican
He left the party shortly after he left the Senate. I am willing to bet that if his father were still alive, he'd have left, too.

13. Well said.
I might not agree with him on some of his conservative points(like privatization of Social Security or the Patriot Act) but he seems to be much more to the left then some of the Democrats.
