They have no philosophy. They don't care about taxes. They only care about their own taxes. They don't care about liberty. They only care that they're free to do whatever they feel like doing. They don't even know what the Constitution says. They only know they want to repeal the emancipations it granted, except for their own, of course. They're not particularly concerned about earmarks or healthcare or anything else they say they are. They only want to be sure no one else gets something they might have to pay for. They don't even much care about this country. What they really want is to simply be part of the baddest gang on the planet as if it will somehow enhance their own comparative self esteem.

They don't care one whit about what they say they care about. They're simply selfish and mean. And they vote like the ignoramuses they are for any craven politician who panders to them, even grifters who are so obviously ill qualified for the office she's clearly seeking.

This is what it is in Dumbfuckistan Nation. It exists not in a place, but in their minds. They've gotten to be its citizens simply by acting in ways fostered by corporations and put forward by their wholly owned media.

And they don't even know it.

In all honesty, the situation scares me. Really. We are seeing the most extreme politicians, certainly in my lifetime. They're like rabid dogs. But worse. Dare I say, they're like the people of certain countries in Europe in the 1930s. That didn't end well. I fear this will not, either. I fear that the repubicans, as crazy as they seemed, are now the only possible moderating force, and I don't see them as being up to the task. There is unleashed on us a wave of ignorance and hate such as I don't think this country ever imagined.

6. It's harder to govern and legislate, than it is to campaign.

I expect a clusterf*ck of epic proportions.

As Lawrence O'Donnell pointed out to Eric Cantor last night on MSNBC, one of the first tests of the new Republican House majority will be this: either vote to raise the debt ceiling again and add 700 billion dollars to the deficit (pissing off their new Teabagger friends immediately) OR let the Bush Tax Cuts for Millionaires expire (pissing off right wingers of all stripes). Right away, they have to start making some hard decisions.

11. Sadly, you're mistaken. There very much IS a philosophy.
And it's this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Darwinism

Seriously, at the risk of being pushy, every DUer who isn't intimately familiar with the above really needs to look at it. So many things become clear.

13. I disagree
My OP went not to the leaders of this movement, but to the people who enable them by voting for them. Most of them have no clue what Social Darwinism is, and if they did, would not find it to their liking because many of *them* would be found defective.

If anything approximates the mindset of Dumbfuckistan Nation it has to be fascism. But it isn't even fascism for them. That presupposes too much self awareness.

"Selfish Fucks" is perhaps the best description.

But I really disagree about the social Darwinism. It may be what drives those who cause this to happen - our owners. But not this strain of The Great Unwashed.

15. Oh, believe me, the "unwashed" of the GOP are certainly social Darwinists.
They absolutely do not have to know it in order to BE it.

Most of them couldn't spell "social Darwinism" much less begin to have a clue what it is on an intellectual level, but that does *not* stop them from practicing the philosophy in their daily lives.

Does a Catholic have to be familiar with the theological doctrines of Thomas Aquinas to be a Catholic? Nope.

16. Oh, I understood your point. I continue to mostly disagree with it
Nothing is pure, so I will grant that some of them are (no maybe) social Darwinists, even if they never heard the term. But I see so many of their most enthusiastic ardents as being in some way "defective" and in need of the very things they're railing against. Old people ("defective" by definition) voting for the guy who wants to cut Social Security. Do you think they're intent on getting wiped out by that? Not a chance.

17. They already know the've got theirs, and it's safe.
None of them believe their own benefits will be cut. For them, it's someone else's neck on the chopping block, and that's just the way they like it.

Republicans are the party for whom original sin consists of not being them.

12. I'd say you nailed it. Freedom is not a free-for-all.
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 03:09 PM by Gregorian
Forgive the metaphor, but Hitler had freedom. The results were not pretty.

This is the issue they have with regulation, and the Fairness Doctrine, and education, and civil rights. In a perfect world none of these things would be needed.

We're creating a society where the civil can live with the uncivil. They don't seem to get that because they're the uncivil. I don't want someone being free to burn down my house. So we made a law against doing things like that.

This is so childish, it's a total waste of our time. Sadly, the Dark Ages are only recent history.

PS- Hello. I've come out of the shadows to post once in a while.

18. I finished my shop
But speaking of regulations, I submitted my house design, but can't begin the foundation until April. I'm kind of bummed out. Things move very slowly. In fact, I just moved into my shop after living in a rat infested rv for three years. So things are going well.

Here's a crappy shot of the "garage". Sorry about the size. I lost my hard drive yesterday, and I'm on my laptop.

21. Yeah, I got a "deal' on glass roll-up doors.
It is big. But it is a garage as well as a shop. It was a ton of work. It makes for a great living space. I've got my kitchen on sawhorses and plywood. Just the way I like it. :)
