Raccoons attack baby in Newton County Georgia
Newton County Sheriff’s deputies are trying to figure out exactly how two raccoons got inside a home to attack a 9-month old baby that was sleeping in a crib in the same room as its mother.

Deputies went to the Brook Hollow Way home around 4 a.m. Wednesday after the mother called 911 to say that her little girl had been bitten by a pair of raccoons, Lt. Tyrone Oliver said.

The baby, who had been bitten severely on her head and other parts of her body, was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, where she remains in critical condition, Oliver said.

The raccoons were outside the family’s house when deputies arrived, Oliver said. One became aggressive and was shot twice by a deputy, Oliver said. Both raccoons ran behind the house, where the shot one eventually died, he said.

5. Sounds like they broke in
The raccoons apparently gained entry into the home by pushing in the side panels of a window air conditioning unit that was in the bedroom where mother and daughter were sleeping.

8. Raccoons are smart, omnivorous, disease carrying and can be quite vicious.
They also like to live around people. They love our food. I am perfectly capable of shooting them if need be. They have killed our cats and threatened our dogs, and we have big dogs. We have had them trapped out and relocated, but they are a perennial problem in our city.

9. When they just won't listen to reason.
I hate to resort to violence, but this has worked every time I've used it.

10. baby eating raccoons
I've been playing with the raccoons that come up every nite for almost 20 years, and so have my cats...there's usually 15 or so a nite, and sometimes a possum hanging out, too....they climb all over me, are incredibly sweet and smart animals, kind of a cross between kitties, puppies and small children...the baby prolly welshed on a poker bet or something...if they had them in the house as pets around a baby, they should be shot (the parents); sweet as they are, raccoons are still wild animals and should be kept at a respectful distance from kids - what morons...my guys finally discovered the cat door on the front of the house a year or so ago Adan occasionally come in to snack on the cat food and and cats don't care as long as they don't eat it all...8-)
