I am sticking....I am a proud Democrat
no matter what, for now and forever. It is all I know, it is all I believe in. On our worst days, we are light-years better than the alternatives. I will suck up the disappointments, bad votes, bad ideas, cowardice. I am sticking with my party and my people to the end. The forces of evil win if they can make us turn on our own.

Always hold your elected officials accountable. They are supposed to serve you, not the other way around.

4. Our own have turned on us...
the ideals of the democratic party, and the hope inspired by some of it's members is the hook that keeps bringing me back...but the ties that bind are being frayed by the continuous yo-yo effect between words and actions.

5. I am sticking... A hot poker to their bums
Or at least I wish I were. Someone needs to do something to get them moving in the right direction.

I'm a proud Democrat, too. As such I know that loyalty is earned and sometimes a political party needs to be cleaned and restructured from the grassroots up.

I suspect that most of the people doing all the bitching (including me) will ultimately stick with the Democratic Party. But nothing says we can't try and change it from the inside. Get candidates who better represent our views and will do the work the people elected them to do.

8. As an anti-partisan independent, I'm happy I don't feel obliged to support people who act against my
... principles and values. Independent means not having to say "I'm sorry." Blind partisanship is, imho, one of the major shortfalls of those who regard themselves as "Republicans" and the major reason the GOP has become so corrupt.

The partisan "Stockholm syndrome" is part of why I believe it's gonna get a LOT worse before it gets better in this country. It's gonna be a helluva ride.

"I am sticking with my party and my people to the end." No doubt many pukes are saying exactly the same thing about their own party, and look where that has gotten them. Blind loyalty to any party is wrong, especially at the expense of the nation..

Edit- Forgot to add my subject line.

10. Then if the party moves away from your values...
What motivation will they have to change?

I've been a proud voting DEM for almost 30 years, but this recent mind boggling capitulation to Shrub's arrogance on the time-line is without reason. I for one do not want them to EVER take my vote for granted. It is no longer a freebie.

Those DEMS willing to roll over obviously feel too damn comfortable and live by a misguided belief that looking good in 08 is more important then honoring the values of those that voted for them.

I'd admire your commitment Mend to the DEMS, but I assume there must be some point where even you would say that's enough??? Blind faith in politicians only gives them an excuse to be lazy.

14. Unfortunately, there's no proportionate representation
We should have full ballot access to all third parties and we need parties competing on IDEAS rather than labels, marketing, talking-points and soundbites. A "Liberal Party" or something like it, should be at the table with proportionate representation based on their electoral showing at the polls versus this winner take all House of "Representatives." I realize it's a wholesale change in our current system - but it's needed and long overdue.

21. My loyalty is with the American people, not politicians or party.
I'm getting to the point where I no longer have confidence that the party I've supported has our best interest at heart. It's sad to feel that way and I don't want to believe that our lives and our futures have been sold out, but I can't help it. If we cannot depend on our elected officials to do what the majority wants, then we need to do it ourselves, united as Americans. How we do that, I don't know.

belittled when we don't feel the same. I still have faith in Pelosi, and will wait to see what their plan is. I have a feeling they are going to have the support by September from both sides of the aisle, and they will be able to force it. Maybe even under threat of impeachment. For now I do trust that they are doing what they can without the votes to override a veto.

26. Blind loyalty to a party or politician is Orwellian.
"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." --Thomas Jefferson to Francis Hopkinson, 1789

"Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man." --Thomas Jefferson to William Branch Giles, 1795

"Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." --John Quincy Adams

here. There isn't much tolerance for voicing "unpopular beliefs". Very closed minded judgements and attacks being made in a gang up on em mentality. That isn't discussing issues in my opinion.

29. Can some proud Democrat please start a thread for me...
I usually don't do the message board thing, but I saw this Bill O'Reilly clip http://www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=sRbH0hpTiLs making fun of a woman who was raped and it got me so pissed off that I started sending it to the media, guess what, not one of them will go after this scumbag.
So I started looking for a way to get it out there for people to see what a scumbag he really is and I found this site, but being new I can't start a topic so I'm hoping that maybe there will be some likeminded people in here that don't find this funny either and maybe we can make someone take a look at what this bastard is broadcasting...we lost Imus (who was pretty liberal) to a stupid racial joke that he shouldn't have made...but this goes way beyond that in my opinion.

38. Welcome to DU
You need a certain number of posts to start a new topic, unspecified number but you can get there fairly easily. I see you posted this link in 2 of your other 3 postings, must really not like it. Please do not include the same link over and over and over, as this is against DU rules, spamming the board with an article or link, unless it is part of your signature line. And no, 3 times doesn't equal spam, just giving you forum etique since you say you are new to forums. At any rate, welcome, get in a few more posts and you can start topic on this on your own. Keep reading, good place to get news, DU, and welcom.

(Steve Winwood)

"Can't Find My Way Home"

BLIND FAITH lyrics

Come down off your throne and leave your body alone.
Somebody must change.
You are the reason I've been waiting so long.
Somebody holds the key.

But I'm near the end and I just ain't got the time
And I'm wasted and I can't find my way home.

Come down on your own and leave your body alone.
Somebody must change.
You are the reason I've been waiting all these years.
Somebody holds the key.

But I can't find my way home.
But I can't find my way home.
But I can't find my way home.
But I can't find my way home.
Still I can't find my way home,
And I ain't done nothing wrong,
But I can't find my way home.

I never have that kind of fanaticism. I hold my group, tribe, to a standard and will never have the "stay the course" mentality. If my party changes into something abhorent or unacceptable ...I leave.

Isn't that what we have been asking the republicans to for the past 7 years? Question their party leaders, their policies. I don't admire blind faith.

If what you are doing isn't working.....TRY SOMETHING ELSE!!

The sad thing is that we will end up pulling out of Iraq because the Republicans don't want
to lose any more seats in the Senate or the House. I see the republicans in congress eventually
pulling the plug and going with the dems if the surge doesn't work.

We need to get out of Iraq and focus on getting Osama bin Laden.

showed him in the sixties...we demonstrated and rioted and drove him and the Democrats from office because of the Vietnam war...which we were very right about and he was very wrong...and then we got Richard Nixon and all the repukes for all our troubles. It was a million times worse and we were stuck with him for a hell of a long time and total hell of a country.
