Van Hollen is anti-woman. Obama is an appeaser. Pelosi is incompetent. Having the House was worthless. That's just the crap I've heard in the last 24 hours. They live in a bubble of ignorance, either accidental or willful.

Dad and I really had nothing to do with his resignation, but we'll take the credit, if it gets REAL Democrats in charge of the DCCC and DSCC again.

No wonder the Dems lost 60 seats if DUers think the way you do. Blaming a good liberal like Chris Van Hollen is negative thinking. It doesn't win Dems a single vote, but it plays into Karl Rove's hand.

Let's face reality here. Many of those seats lost were won in 2008 in very conservative districts. Add to that the tens of millions of dollars poured in from corporatist interests!

Not to take individual stands... He stands where his party stands (or more precisely, the Progressive caucus) on every issue. So if the Progressive caucus folds on an issue he folds. He basically ran for office on the platform of being the Democratic Party's future leader before he won his house seat. That's why they picked MD-8 to run in. He's dedicated to grinding out numbers and "winning votes", like Pelosi. Like any good bagman, like Rahm used to be, his primary concern is to keep Dems in office. He's the sort of leader where they say "This is your big test. We're running you for office. We want you to move to Kensington. If you can defeat what's-her-name" (the RINO that used to govern MD-8, one of the most liberal House seats in the country) "we'll give you a leadership position".

But he is pretty liberal compared to his colleagues and certainly compared to Rahm. Anyoe they replaced him with would be less liberal than Chris. Isn't he the Progressive Caucus chair/whip?

once Sen. Barbara Mikulski retires, IMHO. Even though he is quite liberal, he seems to avoid controversy whenever possible.
