40% of Outside Campaign Money was Made Possible by Supreme Court Ruling
40% of Outside Campaign Money was Made Possible by Supreme Court Ruling

Perhaps no other U.S. Supreme Court decision has had as much impact on an election in modern times as the Citizens United ruling did this year. The court case, which threw out longstanding limits on contributions by corporations and unions, helped produce 40% of all monies donated to campaigns in the now-concluded election cycle, according to the Sunlight Foundation.

The watchdog group says $126 million in campaign funds came from special interests that were able to give freely without disclosing their identity, thanks to Citizens United. Another $60 million in contributions was raised by groups without limitations, except that they did have to report the names of donors. Together, these two pools of campaign dollars totaled $186 million, or 40% of the $450 million spent by all outside groups for the 2010 election.

The Sunlight Foundation called this year’s campaign season “the costliest and least transparent midterm in recent history.”

1. Let's hope that three republicans on the SCOTUS perish before 2012
While the Democrats have the Senate. They should abolish the filibuster for court appointments.

2. get worse
I think that it will increase. It is now clear that the professional politicians are for sale. It is easy to avoid the bribery statute, as the politicians will know what to do.
There can now be the endless campaign.

Connect the dots: we do not have fairness doctrine. The magnates who now own the politicians own the MSM.

The ordinary person who is trying to make a living and feed his family has no place to go for good information. He will have only propaganda of this sort or another.

Foreign countries will figure this out as well; if they have not already done so. Countries such as China will find surrogates to launder their 'campaign contributions'.

The USA will become a client state.

6. I've suggested focusing efforts on overturning Citizens United...

As difficult as it will be, if we don't loosen the control of corporations, all other efforts are moot.

8. Exposing the SCOTUS attending political strategy meeting w/ the Koch Brothers...
just what was the Quid pro Quo? How can we use the ruling against them. Are their means of discovery in the transfers of cash? did they SCOTUS violate their oaths of conduct? Lots of stuff out there.
