Zenyatta the beautiful goes for #20
Edited on Sat Nov-06-10 08:56 AM by malaise
Can she beat the boys again and retire unbeaten?
----------------------------------------------
Zenyatta will answer the question of where she ranks in the history of the sport in Saturday's $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic.

Undefeated in 19 starts, the 6-year-old mare takes on her toughest challenge yet.

Last year, Zenyatta won the Classic by defeating the boys over the synthetic Pro-Ride surface at Santa Anita. This year she will have to beat the best dirt horses over the dirt track at Churchill Downs.

"I think she's already made history," said her trainer, John Shirreffs. "She's already beaten the boys, she's already become the first female to win the Breeders' Cup Classic and that's history in itself. She handles the track very well. The surface will have no effect on how she runs the race."

4. One a day - I love it
You go girl!!

Guiness is so popular in Jamaica that we have a 'stout flavored' ice cream.

5. One of her competitors, Workforce, was just scratched from the race

I hope that improves her chances of winning.
Go, Girl, Go!

6. What time is the race

I don't want to miss it

The entire workforce of Kentucky have been scratched from Mitch the Chinless and Rand Paul's agenda - how appropriate.

7. Beautiful animal - but I think horse racing is cruel.
Too many stories of horses injected with steroids then breaking their legs. Never can get into humans using animals for entertainment or profit.

8. I'll be rooting for her, but I'm afraid it's not going to happen.
Almost all of her success has come on a synthetic surface, including her only win racing against colts (in last year' Breeder's Cup Classic). Dirt is a whole 'nother ball game. She also has not faced a single Grade 1 stakes winner this entire season. I'm afraid that Blame is the horse to beat this year. (She may also finish behind Lookin at Lucky and Quality Road.)
Anyhow, like I said, I'll be pulling for her with my heart, but not my wallet.

9. The diva of Del Mar!
There is no talk of retirement after the BC. The last time they tried that she insisted on returning! I took many photos of her at Del Mar when she was here for the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes which she won for an unprecedented third year in a row! She simply does not know how to lose!!

She is a truly magnificent horse -- her presence takes your breath away! She has it all -- looks, intelligence, star power, athleticism, charisma... I could go on for hours!!

Maybe you can get a sense of her from my photos:

11. Thanks for the pics!
They should have named her "Lola" 'cause she's a show girl!

I hope she wins, but I can't bring myself to watch the race. I'll check the reruns if none of the horses get injured. Can't stand to see them hurt.

Here's the link with a photo. http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/11/06/1912536/zenyatta-falls-short-in-quest.html

She certainly gave that winning stallion a good race.

18. She sure did.
I was concerned about how skittish she was in the post parade, and I confess I had her written off. But damn, what a haul down the stretch. She did good.

That was breathtaking! Dead last to come in 2nd by a nose!

She's one amazing mare, for sure! The winner, Blame, was a helluva guy though.
