Virginia Tea Partiers Push Bill For 'Don't Tread On Me' State License Plate
The Virginia chapter of the 9/12 Project is pushing a bill that would authorize the sale of special "Don't Tread On Me" license plates as official state plates.

"Don't Tread On Me" flags, also known as Gadsden flags, are a go-to protest symbol for the Tea Party set, seen at pretty much every rally since the Tea Party started having rallies.

But if the bill passes, Virginia residents won't even have to lift a finger to show their opposition to big government and higher taxes. Or, as the 912 Richmond website puts it: "The citizens of Virginia will soon be able to express their support for smaller government and protest the Federal Government's intrusion into the affairs of private citizens. How? With license plates that make a statement!"

The site says that the group collected "over 475 signatures" in support of the plate at the Virginia Tea Party convention this year.

4. Let 'em have it.
Symbolic speech is always ok. Too bad these loons had to expropriate a time-honored Revolutionary symbol, though.

9. I despise their co-opting of it as well...
It was a symbol I liked, but now I can't use it anymore out of fear of association...

I'm not even going to get into the fake, revisionist co-opting of the American Revolution, either -- We all know damn well the teabaggers of today would have been loyalists to the King during the revolution...

6. even if it gets approved, it will fall out of style pretty fast
I live in teabag central, and I doubt I'd see more than a few per month on the streets...Even they have to see the irony of giving "big gummitt" even more of their money to protest how much money the government takes from them for the right to drive on socialist roads...

13. How much extra would they pay?
Specialty plates like that should fetch an additional $1,000, at least, doncha think? And have an annual renewal date? My estimation of these garbanzos' intelligence isn't very high, so I'm thinking that Virginia could run this scam for YEARS on these nitwits.

15. Interesting... very interesting.
Maybe they just should move south and pick this plate instead.

I don't know what this group does specifically (yes I am that naieve) but that flag they use is seen by a significant number of people as a hate symbol. Having a group that advocates for why the American civil war was fought for the "losing side" is fine but ???
