Uggh... Cenk is unwatchable
I didn't think MSNBC could do worse than Dylan Ratigan when it came to fake allies... Boy was I wrong.

11. WRT today's show: I disagree with Cenk on the death penalty being a deterrent.
It's good that he's ultimately anti-death penalty, but I strongly disagree that any murderer is going to hesitate over the prospect of death vs life in prison.

12. It might be nice . . .
. . . to be actually afforded a critique of what's wrong with his work today.

You used the word "unwatchable." Does this refer to the fact that you have a problem with his appearance? Does his tie clash with his jacket? Does he have big ol' hunks o' food hangin' off his teeth?

Is your objection content-based? What?

There are those of us who are actually engaged in trying to build the "liberal media" that so many libs/progs say they want. It's important to know WHAT they want. While it's impossible to please everyone, constructive criticism is critical to any successful attempt to build "liberal" media outside the purview of the ForProfit gatekeepers.

So how's about a little substance with the complaint?

14. He seems to... shout more, or something, when he's on network TV.
I don't know if it's just me, but I see a consistent difference between his delivery on TYT, versus his delivery on network TV. I wonder if it's something they're asking him to do. Like "Oh yeah, you gotta play it up a lot more for the rubes" or something?

23. I bet
It must have irritated you tremendously today when he ripped into Republicans planning to do all of those bullshit investigations into president Obama. Or when he said innocent people are being executed because of the death penalty. Or when he dissed racial profiling.

If he's a closet Republican he's f*ng terrible at it.

29. "A pox on both their houses"
That has always been the talk radio strategy. Spread cynicism and generalized anger. It's designed to make people give up and drop out of political action. It fits in very well with GE's agenda for derailing the left.

Cenk is the kind of left commentator General Electric and other CEO's want for us because he doesn't point the left in the direction of any productive, useful action. He just whines and hyperventilates. It's another form of passive consumerism.

35. Let's get specific.
1. Cenk organized a protest to fight the MSM's lack of reporting on the numerous polls showing a majority of Americans supported a public option.

2. Cenk organized a protest to get AIG to give back the backdoor bailout money.

3. Cenk worked with PCCC and Democracy For America for a record breaking phone-banking effort for the 2010 midterm elections.

These three things directly and strongly contradict your completely baseless claim that he's not moving people toward positive political action. The vast majority of Cenk haters here (outside of those who don't like his style which is fine) resent that he is critical of the president and Democratic party at times. But instead of admitting that they come up with nonsense personal attacks completely unsupported by the facts.

51. One more . . .
Way back during the confirmation hearings on Sammy Alito, Cenk organized the "Filibuster for the Filibuster." Liberal talkers from all over the country banded together to work on something Cenk organized, in which we broadcast for more than 24 consecutive hours in a desperate effort to give the Senate dems the spine they needed to stop Alito's confirmation.

It was one of the most stirring times I've ever spent on air.

Sadly, we didn't succeed. But guess what! We WERE right in what we said about that thug. He's been nothing but pure poison, and Cenk was the one who organized the resistance, with people calling their democratic senators all over the country. That the senators chose to ignore their liberal base (surprise! NOT) was not the fault of either Cenk, those of us who worked with him or, most importantly, the people who took action.

20. That is just a matter of finding the footing within the form
I've not seen his other show, but I assume it is not of the same production quality as the network show. It is like learning to project on different stages, if that makes sense. His energy level outside his own realm, the energy of the crew, the audience size, all of that makes for a few weeks of getting TV legs, for almost all of them. Rachel had a fast learning curve, but there were nights when I could tell she was trying not to be self aware, aware of her 'look' and all. TV. Not radio. Not the home playground.
On his other show, does he use a prompter? That is a whole new thing as well, and it takes a moment to hit it all. Does he have a boss or two standing there, with earpieces?
Just the sensation of being on live TV can be so strong that I basically think a person does great the first month if they get it all said without passing out cold.
I think he will find the proper levels vocally quickly. He is so much better than some I could think of, whom I will not mention, but lots of 'new to the tube' types talk really fast, because they are so hyped by the experience. This is wildly common. Cenk is breathing, he is vocally pretty free, not tight. He'll be fine.

Once Cenk gets his own show where he can cut loose in a more natural format, I bet that "delivery" will go away.

All of the slamming of the press reminds me of Nixon
Yep. Nixon. Cenk is doing a great job, this week is the first time I have seen him and I think among other things, that he brings a natural delivery and presence that is a break from the constant stream of over polished presenters.
As a Democrat, I love a free and vocal press, and I expect that press to have loyalty to the American people, not to a politician or a Party.

19. A real progressive who voted for Reagan and Bush.
Good thing he has had a big enough change in political philosophy to now spend his time being harshly critical of a Democratic President and his administration.

But you're right he'll be on the rest of the month. I'm sure he's just what the new boss is looking for.

22. He was born in 1970.
Legal voting age is 18 (everyone can review your comment now in that context for accuracy).

But yes, he used to be a moderate NJ Republican. I'm amused that you bring that up at every opportunity as if it's some kind of relevant GOTCHA(!) instead of addressing the substance of what he says and refuting it with well thought out points.

PS---Kucinich used to be anti-choice, I suppose we should question his progressive credentials as well.

31. Just said so. Do you think I should oppose my own rights to
stand with some politician? Why? Are you saying that you prefer the direction Obama went, away from equality and embracing of the 'defense of Marriage' routine? I'd much rather see a Republican become a Democrat than see a Democrat become a dogma spouting marriage defender.
