So I get an email about the cat food commission from my mother-in-law

OH NO! she says, they are going to cut my social security and medicare and get rid of the mortgage interest deduction!

She lives on social security, uses Medicare and has a big interest payment on her house.

I tried to talk to her and to everyone I could back when we fist heard about this shit last summer. I wanted them to go to the web site and sign a petition asking that Obama and Congress not listen to the cat food commission. All I got for my speech-a-fying was shut the fuck up, I'm watching dancing with the stars or some other "reality" show.

So now she is warning me! I told her today, it's too fucking late now.

1. it's not too late. your "i told you so" moment isn't as important as her joining the push-back.

3. Agree on that - I may even send a few of my own emails.
Obama has just lost any shred of respect I still had for the guy (granted that was hanging by a thread after the first 2 years).

6. She won't join the push back. Both her and my wife do not want to be bothered.
They act like being involved with politics is the same thing as being hooked on porno or something. It's just something nice people don't do.

Says I'm preaching to the choir! She and my wife only look at the ballot they are going to vote on the minute before they mark it! They really get mad if I try to talk about politics!

16. We are in the process of buying a house and one of the reason I gave
for buying it was to reduce our taxes with an interest deduction. When she heard about the interest deduction being eliminated she sent me the email to tell me about it and maybe I wouldn't want the house now. She is not interested in getting involved politically.

She is also upset that she could get burned by it too.

4. I heard something on the radio yesterday...
A caller to some Sirius Left show said that right-wing Americans just don't believe that fellow Americans would cut this stuff - that's why they voted for them anyway; they just didn't believe it. I think the caller might have been right.

8. So do a bunch of DUers.
Just look at the posts today saying it is not going to happen. Obama would not sign it or Congress would not pass it.

Just you wait Henry Higgins! Just you wait! This isn't your father's government anymore.

emails and their phones with calls telling them to keep their hands off SS.

Democrats are still in the majority. They can and must reject these proposals. Let Republicans fight to cut SS. That will guarantee a loss for them in 2012.

But, if Democrats do not fight now, they can kiss 2012 goodbye. Because Republicans will blame it on Obama's Commission. We'll see what happens when they vote on this, but they need to hear from the American people now.

14. They certainly can be obstinate. Some I'd cut
some slack because they're not able mentally to 'get it'. Then there are those
