I did find Jon's BASIC point interesting.
His BASIC point is that news organizations have positioned the argument in this country as Red v. Blue, when the national argument SHOULD focus on corruption v. non-corruption.

I can accept that.

2. corruption vs non-corruption is red vs. blue.
Jon Stewart is looking like one of these clueless centrists these days.

9. Yeah, he really is. Corruption is cheating Americans, making the rich richer,
shortchanging the middle class - basically, everything repukes do. I don't really care about Rangel, simply because he does good for people.

3. That should be the focus, but it seemed like it got hijacked along the way...
and no one knows how to stop it. The horse left the barn and there's no bringing it back now.

So, how do we fix this? Fairness Doctrine?

4. Actually Rachel and Keith do point out corruption with facts.
So do Ed and Cenk and O'Donnell.

Fox doesn't do facts, neither do the teabaggers.

16. So while he's correct on corruption he's still using false equivalency on fox v. liberals on msnbc
not all of msnbc mind you, just the liberals.

5. But... but... but...
Our side = good

Their side = evil

Anything more nuanced that that is lost here anymore.

6. Yea it is about getting rid of bad in government.
Not getting rid of government.

And getting rid of bad private sector with rules and enforcement, not getting rid of private sector.

And having a beer with friends can also remove corruption, when I figured that out I learned something, about corruption not being about what you do, but how, and sometimes why, you do it.

11. This whole Jon Stewart thing is his posturing
My guess is his audience of libs has topped out and he needs to now appear to be bi-partisan (cough, cough) in order to increase the numbers. He didn't used to be like this. I frankly couldn't understand (or stand) much of what he had to say at the rally or on Rachel's show. He seemed very uncomfortable to me.

Either that or he freaked out when someone called him the "most influential person in the country". He should stick to comedy.

Just my cynical input in this up-is-down-down-is-up world.

13. Except I don't think he's accurate.
News organizations, largely owned by right wing controlled corporations, frame the news as Blue vs. American.

14. It's Rich vs Poor
It has always been the people's divider, and always will be...

Class Warfare has been around for centuries...

15. Sure, but the media frames it as (good) Americans vs. (bad) Democrats.
Edited on Thu Nov-11-10 11:15 PM by EFerrari
Or liberals or leftists or progressives. The term that describes us is always the bad one.

And as you point out, we are in the middle of a nasty class war that the media's framing obscures.
