I'll say it again: we need Dr. Dean
Damn, we need a Democrat that fights.

"If Republicans think we’re going to slow the growth of Medicare and Medicaid and give tax cuts to those making a million dollars a year, we will wrap that around their necks and beat the hell out of them in 2012." - Howard Dean, November 2010

The DLC has run our Party through seven Congressional election cycles. In six of the seven, we emerged with minorities in both houses of Congress. Most recently, we were able to save a majority only in the Senate.

Dr. Dean ran our Party in two election cycles. In both, we emerged owning both houses.

Dr. Dean's batting 1,000. vs the DLC batting 063.

Instead of meek supplication, Dr. Dean would make the Republicans own their insane policies.

I sure hope Dean runs in 2012 so we have a shot at returning our country to working Americans.

1. I posted about 'all they want to do is fight'
Edited on Thu Nov-11-10 11:42 PM by RandomThoughts
You can fight without fighting, that is what standing is, not backing down, but not hurting either. You stand for what you believe without hurting others.

As far as a fighter, why fight? But also don't let someone else that wants to fight you change what you think is best. If you really think it is best by thought and feeling.

And for the 'there can only be one' crowd. How many of you missed that the good ones did not fight each other?

Did you even notice that in that film?

That is also the concept of protection and all defensive from Jedi also, the light side is only used for defense, never offense.

2. I hope he runs too
I think he is more politically mature this time, has more experience nationally and has a good network now.

7. Dean Camp Sees Mischief Behind Rumors That He'll Primary Obama
Dean Camp Sees Mischief Behind Rumors That He'll Primary Obama

<...>

"The notion that Governor Dean or Senator Feingold are going to mount a primary challenge to President Obama is nonsense," said Kombiz Lavasany, a former researcher at the DNC during the Dean years. "It was a notion dreamed up by two right-wing columnists (John Fund and Bill Kristol) and regurgitated by Roger Simon at Politico for mainstream consumption. It's really just the latest reminder that if Kristol and Fund are giving you the inside scoop about politics, especially Democratic politics you're wasting your time listening to them."

<...>

Oh, I know I'm correct.

Jeez, I'm sorry for doubting you. If Kombiz Lavasany says it, I know I can take it to the bank.

Sorry!

15. If you read the link, you'd see HOWARD DEAN said it. But WTF does he know about what he'll do?
Edited on Fri Nov-12-10 12:10 AM by SemiCharmedQuark
"On Wednesday, a spokesman for Sen, Russ Feingold (D-Wisc.) clarified that the just-defeated senator has "no interest in challenging President Obama in 2012" despite hinting at advancing his personal political ambitions that year. On Thursday, former DNC Chair Howard Dean, likewise, was forced to respond to rumors that he would lead an inter-party uprising by taking on Obama in the next presidential election. "

Also:

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2010/11/howard_dean_is_absolutely_cate.html

"The former head of the Democratic National Committee is traveling on business in Canada, but his spokesperson, Karen Finney, was as clear as can be on this issue. Pushing back hard on the growing chatter that Dean is thinking about or would undertake a challenge to Obama, Finney said, "It's absolutely not true. He supports President Obama in 2012 and he has repeatedly said so publicly." In fact, Finney said, Dean said so several times on CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Nov. 2.

Yes, I did ask the next question. Is the Dean denial categorical? "He is absolutely, categorically not running in 2012." Can't get anymore definitive than that?"

Now. Look sad and say "D'oh"...

20. Uh... no
His spokesperson did.

Granted, Dean would probably say that himself. But Dean says lots of things like that - like that we'll win the 2010 mid-terms, even though he knew we'd get creamed - because it's the most useful thing to say for the sake of our Party.

Obama seems to value being liked by everyone more than doing right by those who liked him.

9. I would rather have him back at the DNC or better yet as Obama's COS now then wait
2 years from him to lose in a primary to Obama in a fight bitter enough to cripple Obama in November.

11. People need to be less invested in individual politicians, and more into movements.....
A politician, no matter how noble, doesn't do the right thing without a push from the masses. JFK might have been in favor of civil rights, but it was the mass civil rights movement that pushed him to do the right thing.
Canvassing, working the phones and voting might make us feel good about ourselves, but that goes "poof" after election day. With mass movements, the politicians can either support them or get trampled by them.

13. Agreed. A primary opponent would be healthy for the party after two years of ideological compromise.
Right now the Democratic party has no direction, no message and no principle at the leadership level. A primary challenge is the mechanism we've built into the system as a check that rank and file party members can freely exercise.

In the next month Obama has a set of decisions to make on tax, Social Security, the safety net for our poor and possibly another package of bank subsidies. Based on these choices Dean might find himself the only actual Democrat on the primary ballot if he decided to run.

He would never have assigned an anti-ss dlcer as counterpoint to a rabid anti-ss outright fasc..conservative co-chair.
