Net Neutrality, Social Media and corporate image
the Carnival Splendor is providing a good case as to why corporations want to get rid of it. Two things I have already noticed from trolling social media looking for ahem... the passenger side of the story.

Carnival told us that they were never served SPAM... never mind the USN photos to the contrary. So they never served spam to passengers, except for the ones who refused to eat it. Now here is the question, why lie about something like this? And if you are lying about SPAM, what else?

Now they also said we didn't have such a big deal of a fire... three problems with this.

Video of THICK BLACK SMOKE coming out a smokestack from a pesky passenger...

They themselves ordered the passengers to open air decks, to avoid smoke inhalation... and...

The large naval multi-national response to the emergency.

But this is providing a PURFECT example of why they want net neutrality. Anybody want to lay odds as to how many of the videos and local "angry passenger" (Carnival's representation) talking to the media would appear?

Oh and kudos to CBS... as I suspected this was far more serious than they were letting out.


Remember the SPAM story... if they are willing to lie about SPAM... what else are they lying? A telling video was one from a passenger, where passengers are told not to go to lifeboat stations, while all the crew is ordered to their emergency stations. Guess what some of those stations are? You guessed it... and again it explains why the Ensenada Station left in-toto.... and why we had an aircraft carrier on scene and two USCG cutters on scene.

How long until social media comes under full control? I mean this is going AGAINST the official story line... and I don't expect anybody to really fight it.

For the moment, enjoy the entertainment. Relatively small stories like this are usually telling of what is wrong at times. Nobody died, that's good... but they are telling. And I am enjoying the social media. Usually do not troll it, but today it is fun...

1. The story is controlled because it its bad for Carnival's bottom line.
Look at it.

No issue of national security. No terrorists. Just a cruise line that doesn't want bad publicity to spoil the flow of money. So they move aggressively to control the story before it controls them.

What I thought interesting was interview this morning with several passengers, all of whom are going to use their free cruise, and one woman who is actually booked on the same ship in 2 months.

When ever we poke the media we see this kind of crap float to the surface.

2. absolutely, and they used the same
tactic they used on their FIRST cruise, 35 years ago... they were stuck on a sand bar. They offered free booze and got everybody pretty liquored up. A critic of the industry said that is actually part of their emergency plan.

From a PR perspective, with 35K adults, who are pissed, it is a valid tactic. It works. They are getting a cruise and free booze!
