She had a miscarriage while her husband was out of town and needed to get to the hospital. What would you tell your mother if she had a miscarriage? My god, if my mom had one, I am getting her to the fucking hospital. It was an emergency, it's not like she kept it at the kitchen table.

sure, I was traumatized (age13), but that's what the dr instructed her to do.

I would like to know what W. Bush's actual age was when this happened, but a miscarriage is an awful experience. I don't think she expected to push out her dead baby that day. Her husband was out of town, I assume there was a whole lot of blood, I can't imagine what mental state she was in. Most women would be, and are, broken by it.

My mom had 5 miscarriages, and she never heard of such a thing.

She was told by a doctor that she was a "habitual aborter" and probably could not really have kids.

She had 4... me, and my three sisters.

Is this a cultural/religious/medical era type of thing???

And the only reason I posted this, was the shock of hearing about it, and the look on Martha Raddatz's face as she repeated the story on PBS's This Week with Gwenn Ifill.

still not "over it". In fact, my "due date" is coming soon and I find the loss even more painful as it approaches. I shouldn't take my issues out on others, though.

I will say this much, I'm not entirely sure GWB should have put the episode in the book. I certainly hope he at least got his mother's permission before he did.

How people react to a miscarriage is probably a combination of the factors you mention: culture, their religious beliefs, and whatever medical advice they receive from their OB. And of course, it is an individual thing as well. Each person has a different emotional response to what is an intensly personal and painful loss, and a potentially dangerous medical crisis.

I did some research on the subject, once it became personal to me, and the medical community does NOT have a standard procedure. Some OBs basically tell the woman to just handle it on their own and only call them if they start gushing gallons of blood. I'm happy to say that my doctor was much more caring than that and kept close tabs on me from the moment I started spotting. The examining of fetal tissue can be important for a few different reasons. The most important being the confirmation that the abortion (medical term) is complete, and there is no tissue remaining in the uterus. If a woman has multiple miscarriages, examining the tissue can sometimes lead to clues as to why it keeps happening.

Anyway, this is more than you and the world needs to know about me, but I felt I owed you a bit of an explanation for my harsh words earlier.

I had absolutely no idea that this ever happens/happened.

:hug: You're in my thoughts. My first son was 7 weeks pre-term, I had a miscarriage after him and another pregnancy in the 23rd week when I was hospitalized for approx. a week taking those nasty labor stopping drugs and I had a boy too premature to survive.

Those dates haunted me for a long time...another :hug: and another :hug: Not comforting to you right now, but it will get better. Take care of yourself.

It was discussed on Bill Mahrer last night. It's not like Babs did a Santorum and brought the fetus home, set a place at the table for it or kept it next to the spices in a Ball jar. The miscarriage happened at home and she wrapped it up and dim son was there to witness...something that I think would be traumatic for any young person to see...and something that could affect their attitudes.

There's plenty of other shit in this war criminal's attempts to revise history to pull apart.
