7. or if you were planning on getting married
I well remember those days when I was in my 20s way back when. Asking if you are married (or plan to) is also illegal. I know AFTER you are hired they can ask your birthdate for Social Security, Pensions, etc.

As an aside as an "older woman", I only went so back on my employment history for two reasons. I didn't want them to figure out how old I really was, and besides which, it was probably irrelvant that many years ago. My husband was also told by a headhunter not to list employment going back more than 10 or 15 years, unless it was at the same place of employment.

4. It is illegal.
The way they get around that is asking for your education history. If you graduated high school in 1970, you're way over 21.

5. Not legally. Of course, when you walk into the interview, your
age group is instantly visible. But, they're not allowed to ask you. It's a little silly, I think, since they'll discriminate anyhow if they're doing age-based hiring.

I do believe, though, that porn employers are allowed to make sure you're over 18.

8. In a sense, the whole "age question" has become somewhat ridiculous. . .
since all anyone need do is look up your contact info on any number of internet "white pages" that include your address, family relations, and age as a standard -- whether you want it listed or not.

10. They can ask if you are over 18
Just about every job application I've filled out asks that. Even though they can't directly ask your age, there are plenty of ways to get an approximate age, through dates of your education and employment history.
