It's shocking to realize, yet again, that Bush really is a dumb sonofabitch
The worst moment of his presidency was when some second-rate rap dude called him a racist, and the thing that he misses most is BEING PAMPERED?

All the terrible things that the presidents of my lifetime have been through: the Cold War, the oil embargo, the hostage crisis, the Ethiopian famine, the Challenger disaster, Lockerbie, all the crap in the Middle East, Tianenman Square, the scary dissolution of the Soviet Union, the first Gulf War, AIDS, Chernobyl, Exxon Valdez, Reagan being SHOT, the Oklahoma City bombing, Somalia, the war in Yugoslavia, the bombing of the USS Cole, the Rwandan genocide, the first WTC bombing, and the Columbine massacre, not to mention earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, riots...

I'm sure that if you asked Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr, and Clinton what they missed most about being president, TO A MAN it would be some variation on the intellectual challenge and excitement of meeting with both foreign and American leaders and being able to shape policy for children yet unborn here and around the globe. You know, MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.

It really drives home not only how stupid Bush is, but what a goddamn NARCISSIST he is.

3,000 people were KILLED on September 11th, but that wasn't about him.

2,000 people were KILLED in Hurricane Katrina, but that wasn't about him.

Being called a racist was a PERSONAL INSULT. PERSONAL INSULTS are intolerable to the narcissist.

Shaping the realities of children yet unborn isn't about him. Being a part of the end of the Cold War or the beginning of peace between Israel and Palestine isn't about him.

Getting a nice dinner on the White House china, that's what it's about. I'm sure the sheets are very comfortable, and the chairs are plush. THAT's what it's all about.

What a useless, useless man.

1. and even in their worst time, the Bushes had a "fabulous" year.
And they can even laugh about the night of September 11, 2001.

10. "That's right -- we got a laugh out of it." (Peggy Noonan's interview)
President Bush: But the day ended on a relatively humorous note. The agents said, "You'll be sleeping downstairs. Washington's still a dangerous place." And I said no, I can't sleep down there, the bed didn't look comfortable. I was really tired, Laura was tired, we like our own bed. We like our own routine. You know, kind of a nester. Like the way things are. I knew I had to deal with the issue the next day and provide strength and comfort to the country, and so I needed rest in order to be mentally prepared. So I told the agent we're going upstairs, and he reluctantly said okay. Laura wears contacts, and she was sound asleep. Barney was there. And the agent comes running up and says, "We're under attack. We need you downstairs," and so there we go. I'm in my running shorts and my T-shirt, and I'm barefooted. Got the dog in one hand, Laura had a cat, I'm holding Laura --

Mrs. Bush: I don't have my contacts in, and I'm in my fuzzy house slippers --

President Bush: And this guy's out of breath, and we're heading straight down to the basement because there's an incoming unidentified airplane, which is coming toward the White House. Then the guy says it's a friendly airplane. And we hustle all the way back upstairs and go to bed.

Mrs. Bush: And we just lay there thinking about the way we must have looked.

Noonan: So the day starts in tragedy and ends in Marx Brothers.

President Bush: That's right -- we got a laugh out of it.

15. The first time I laughed after 9/11 was when Guiliani said we could on SNL
Edited on Sun Nov-14-10 09:35 AM by lunatica
This is not about Guiliani. This is about how profoundly our grief was that we had to have someone actually say it was OK to laugh again, and George and Bush get to laugh within 24 hours of the worst attack on US soil in history.

I remember the skit. When Guiliani said that it seemed they and the audience actually held their breath in anticipation of it being a major bomb, then the audience (both in the studio and across the country) burst into explosive laughter. It was definitely a moment that could have been in the category of 'too soon'.

11. My father voted for him twice...
:puke:

Toward the end of his second term, Dad said that he was 'becoming disappointed' and certainly, if given the chance, would never give him a third term. But who the fuck did he vote for in 2008? That's right...McCain/Palin. He even 'likes' Bush and Palin on his FB page. I don't get it. Dad is a retired postal worker who is barely scraping by. Yet he cares more about false patriotism, abortion, and teh gays not getting married than anything else.

16. Lots of older people are in denial because it too heartbreaking to face the truth
So they cling to their patriotism. Look at this this way. As hard as it is for people your age and younger to face the facts of what has happened to our country, it's damn near impossible for those who grew up during it's best years when opportunity was available to the largest middle class the world has known.

Not much consolation, I know. :argh:

Those people are stupid enough to vote for Palin too. Yikes! :yoiks:

Edited on Sun Nov-14-10 03:28 AM by XOKCowboy
He's the kind of guy who, if he hadn't been born rich, would be lucky today to be working minimum wage. He'd be trailer trash. He'd damn sure have used a lot of the "entitlements" that he worked so hard to deny to decent hard working people.

5. That isn't stupidity--it's brain damage from all the booze and coke
He got decent grades in college, and was astonishingly coherent in his debates with Ann Richards. Compared with his Kerry debates, there was massive deterioration.

Obama's inauguration, when the Obamas were bidding the Bushes farewell, as he hugged Michelle, Bush said, "You're going to have the time of your lives, I promise!"

When I read that on his lips, I wasn't surprised at all. To him it was just so much fun to get to play CiC and be the center of attention, while barking orders left and right. None of the responsibilities involved weighed on him at all.

The lack of maturity was obvious from the start, and age has not in any way given him a broader perspective.
