TR on criticism
To announce that there must be no criticism of the president... is morally treasonable to the American public.
Theodore Roosevelt

I cannot believe here I am posting this little reminder on Democratic Underground. The last time I posted this gem was before the Iraq War on the AOL boards...

Do as you may do of it... I expect the same reception as a few of those Right Wingers, which was all but positive.

Realize I intend to continue to be critical when anybody in Government, regardless of party, deserves it. They are MY EMPLOYEES, damn it. and yours and your neighbors, They are OUR employees. Got it? Good.

3. Oh not at all
there are a few of his quotes that belong in other places, but he was a creature of his time. He said this at the height of WW I, after we went into it. Again, context is important. No, nobody was going to arrest a former POTUS, but Wilson was not happy.

6. I don't know, it seems that you've been able to get in plenty of criticism here.
That's fine, but why don't you post an equal number of critical posts of Mitch McConnell, for instance? He's quite responsible for much of the acrimony and discord in Washington. McConnell also is our employee, but has announced that he has no intention of working for us...his only goal is to make President Obama a one-term president.

I'd also love to see more critical posts of our corporate-owned Supreme Court. The recent stories about Clarence Thomas and his perjury about his perverted behavior were quite interesting.

I am crushed.

BTW, I posted a reasonable reply to your OP. You respond with a personal attack. Go figure.

24. Pointing out that "you are wrong"...oh that is freaking hilarious!

There happen to be Jewish people in this very state of PA who don't want Cantor to condemn Glenn Beck. They worked for Pat Toomey (Teabagger Republican-PA) in his recent victorious (unfortunately) run for the Senate. You can follow your own excellent instructions on how to use the search functions.

BTW, if Eric Cantor condemns Glenn Beck, you don't have to eat your hat. I think it would be a better idea if you would eat your sock.

15. We can tear down boner, mcconnell, macain, and any other
republican all we want and it will do not good
because they do not care what the democrat in
the street cares. The only chance we have is for
the elected democrats to listen to us. It seems they do
not really care either. Also it seems almost all
the elected democrats do not want to call out
any of the republicans for their lies.

23. I think some of them care, but definitely not all of them.
It is very frustrating to see that our Democrats have not been willing enough to call out the Republicans.
IMHO, that very fact caused a lot of Democratic voters to stay home in November.

I just do not see the sense in posting umpteen posts daily criticizing ONLY the Democrats. It's not productive, but maybe it's not meant to be.

We DO need to continue tearing down "orange man" Boehner (he looks like he was dipped in acid mine drainage), McConnell, McCain, DeMint, Toomey. Eventually some of it will stick, just like it did with George W. Bush.

25. I think if you ask around there would be plenty of people on DU
that would be willing to debate the republicans
if the elected dems will not.

There just seems such a disconnect between the people
and the elected officials.

and it is actually on both sides.

I have met a few Republicans who ALSO sat the election out... (For the record, I did vote.... more to keep the crazee out... but you knew that)

12. Any elected official is subject to the scrutiny of the people--
Edited on Sun Nov-14-10 11:13 PM by vixengrl
that's just a sign of a healthy democracy at work. In our case, in the States, this means our First Amendment is doing exactly the job it should--permitting a two-way correspondence between the powers that be, and the people they serve. If any public figure should appear to be failing in the promises they made to the people, the response of the fourth estate should be both to report it and the response of the people to that failure--and presidents are no exception. In fact, they should be subject to the highest standard, as they have been entrusted with the highest executive powers.

There is an old saying to the effect that a cat may look at a king. To which I can only answer, "Meow."

(Edit--spell-check doesn't catch real words that aren't the real words I was attempting to use.)
