one of my editorials printed today-"Shop American"
http://www.thedailylight.com/articles/2010/11/15/opinion/doc4ce189feb5437117421120.txt

As the holiday season approaches, we are faced with a grim reality. There are fewer and fewer things actually made in America anymore. Yet, we still have some good options available to support American made products and American jobs. As you prepare for the holidays, consider putting a little extra effort into “shopping American.” Here are some suggestions.

First, try locally owned and handmade items. Waxahachie is fortunate in that there are many craftsmen/women here. Try to ensure that the craft/tool was made from American-made resources.

There are several good online websites for “Made in America” products.

1. Still made in the USA is an online network of made-in-America products for men, women, kids, home and pets

http://www.stillmadeinusa.com/

2. The Union Shop has products made by American union workers for men, women, children, home and vehicles using all American ingredients.

3. Americans Working has a huge online resource for American made products ... even skateboards!

http://www.americansworking.com/

4. Made In USA Forever has another large resource of American-made products for every need.

The benefits of buying from these resources are three-fold. First, your purchase helps keep a business open and an American employed. Second, the ingredients, safety and security of the product can be easily resourced. And, third, you will get some great things that will last much longer than imported items. This holiday, do yourself and others a big favor ... buy American first. Our country depends on you.

1. We have to do this
We need a DU group so we can post finds of American-made products.

Though some of these might not be exactly your style, these are made in the U.S.A.

And then for the traditionalists.

I've started collecting American-made products I find at garage sales and such--just anything. SOMEDAY I hope my descendants get as much for them as some of those American-made antiques bring on Antiques Road Show.

I'm proud to own a 1954 Montgomery Ward cabinet electric sewing machine I got for $30. It is a screaming good machine.
