Old woman pushed to death from LA train platform
Monday, November 15, 2010
11-15) 14:11 PST Los Angeles, CA (AP) --

Authorities say an 84-year-old woman has been pushed to her death from a Los Angeles commuter train platform and another woman has been arrested.

Los Angeles County sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker says Betty Sugiyama was on a Metro Gold Line platform Sunday morning when she was pushed onto the empty tracks. She was injured in the fall and died at a hospital.

Parker says 44-year-old Jackkqueline Pogue was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remained jailed Monday on $1 million bail. Authorities say they'll seek a murder charge now that the victim has died.

Investigators say the attack appeared to be unprovoked and there's no immediate word on a motive.

1. Please tell me she didn't survive Manzanar just to die like this
I'm really bummed out right now.

4. No, I'd say that "Jackkqueline" has lost her's.
Unless you wish to blame all of society for the actions of the occasional nutcase, I don't.

6. Gee, was I blaming someone, much less all of society?

8. Actually, it did look like you blame all of society.
I tend to disagree that this is a snapshot of anything larger. I think it's just a screwed up person to blame.

11. There are too many of these instances occurring and I can't help but feel
that those who act like this have lost their souls -- like they're dead inside.

It's just a screwed up person, countless times over. I see the hatred and fear from millions of Right Wingers, the vindictiveness, the lack of compassion. What else am I to think?

12. You do have a point.
I definitely see that with the mass shootings that seem to happen every few months lately.

Times are so tough these days, I'm actually surprised people are as kind and upbeat as they are.

I don't know...maybe the woman was mentally ill, or maybe she's a mean person driven to a cruel act. Pretty sad either way.

13. Yeah, she probably was which is heartbreaking in itself. I'm just so frequently
:wow: at some of the stuff I hear that is apparently accepted these days (hate-filled stuff) that my immediate response was 'not again!'

But as you say she may be mentally ill, and shame on us for not taking better care of our brothers and sisters. (And by 'us' I mean primarily the Right Wingers, starting with Reagan when he put these poor people out on the streets.)

3. Please! This was a loony tune in action...
This was probably a mental patient who hasn't been supervised because that would just cost too many taxpayer dollars.

7. I heard this on the news a little while ago and I got choked up
I felt bad for that poor woman and her sister who was with her when it happened. I hope they throw that book at the woman who did it, she deserves it.

9. I fear this every day
I ride the train every day. I try to be cautious on the platform. There's a long history of crazy people pushing innocent people on the tracks and in front of trains. What a horror.
