The Republican power is in control of the message
Extending the Booshe tax cuts is a compromise? As KO just said, it's charades.

They have mastered the message. Frankie Luntz is better at swaying opinion than ANYONE we've ever had.

And the Obama Administration has NOTHING to fight them with.

1. When Obama, himself, blames his "failure" on "not being bi-partisan enough" I have to wonder...
...what the fuck is he A) Thinking or B) Playing at.

Republicans do have a strong message machine but their good Offense just draws more attention to our shitty Defense, IMO.

4. Depends on the definition of is is. He NEVER says he needs to give in more.
Just that not bewing more bipartisan is his failure. And handily, it steals the message from them.

2. It's almost as if they don't want to own the frame.
It's almost as if they just want an excuse for failing.

3. Yes we do
but we lack the will...

There is a certain professor who talked about messaging and why it matters.

He's been ignored at every turn.

These people are NOT idiots... so the other alternative is, this is on purpose.

5. Well, Lakoff is sane and rational
as opposed to sociopath Luntz.

Every progressive should read "Moral Politics" by Lakoff.

7. I disagree that Luntz is a sociopath
he is a linguist willing to use his knowledge for his cause... and unlike our side, they understood the mine of knowledge they had and have used it. He is a fountain of knowledge. But our side refuses to use the knowledge.

As to Lakoff, Moral Politics is in well trodden terrain... and yes should be a required readying. You want a more ahem interesting version of these theories? Moral Sentiments by Smith. yes that Adam Smith.

10. Upon dictionary check, I stand by the assertion.
Sociopath: a person, as a psychopathic personality, whose behavior is antisocial and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.

There is no question in my mind that Luntz lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.

11. Well we agree to disagree
I prefer not to make the other side "the other."

6. I agree, but sometimes I think they are TOO smart, and they forget human nature
There is NO WAY this guy is smart enough to create the message the Pukes are puking.

8. Luntz is brilliant in his knowledge of linguistics
He also does something straight out of marketing... before they release anything they use focus groups to refine it.

Our side still thinks doing this is beneath us. Well they have been doing this effectively for close to thirty years, but we cannot be bothered?
