Some of the things I never thought I would read
as part of the research... here I am... readying John Calvin... oy... but hey if we are to trace attitudes, yes they go to him and Erasmus and a few others...

And it was s'posed to be simply a history of labor, just them facts... damn intellectual history!

1. His Protestant Work Ethic is a good one to read for his views on
work and workers. I read it and still use it occasionally against the repugs. It is also where I learned what makes to rw religions tick. His double predestination theories are also why rwers think it is okay to discriminate against the poor, sick and minorities.

4. Oops! You are right Weber wrote it and talks a great deal about
Calvin. Sorry. As a sociology major I should be ashamed. But it has been many years ago.

5. Calvin was a reflection of his times.

Ain't no accident that the views he expressed were congenial to the rising bourgeoisie. He was the metaphysical von Mises of his times.
