Humor me, please. If we were to create a media campaign here...

for any number of issues that we as a group feel are vitally important, what media people do you feel would be most helpful to contact to help spread the word and get on board? Think more along the lines of societal issues, not politics necessarily...but a general awareness-raising campaign.

I'm thinking...

Keith Olbermann
Rachel Maddow
Michael Moore
Jon Stewart

I know there are many more but those are my starting four.

I'm lagging behind in all things Twitter, but it seems when a few people with a huge following catch wind of something, it can spread like wildfire. Who are those few people with the Twitter and Facebook power, as well as more traditional media influence?

Thanks! :hi:

2. First it would take
getting enough people to come together for the cause whatever it is. Then as your cause gets traction, the media will come. Word of Mouth still is the best advertisement. A lot of times when we see something on the news unless its a breaking story we have heard or seen it via, text, telephone,or internet!! So whats your cause? And what do you want to do? Like the name would love to hear ideas!!

3. So many causes, so much to do....

:hippie:

I'm working on specifics and gaining clarity (one idea being a dental/vision/hearing free clinic tour similar to the free medical clinic tour promoted by KO over the last six months). My hope is that, as a group, DUers will get behind it to help generate attention for so many of our society's needs, not the least of which is the raising awareness of poverty and homelessness.

I'll start with a petition; I'm getting the details in place but was hoping for a good list of media people to list in the petition, to help gain their support.

Others can focus on legislative means and politicians; I prefer to take it to the people directly.

Thanks for responding.

:hi:

P.S. I tried to introduce the idea of joining together as a group to do something concrete and constructive recently but the thread went off track.

I'll return with something super specific soon. I'm nothing if not persistent. ;)

4. Good Idea!!!
Every good cause starts with a good idea. My suggestion would be to start with organizations around your cause. They have the knowledge and will give you direction. People to talk to, Dentist in your community,Optometrist in your community,Hearing professional, and hearing aid providers. These people may help you get them together or may get you together in the direction you want to go. Good Luck I will be rooting for your cause whatever the outcome!!!!

She was one of the co-creators of the Daily Show and worked with Rachel Maddow on the "Unfiltered" radio show on Air America. She would be a good connection.

Eddie Izzard - he has over a million followers, and he often retweets worthy causes.

Thank you for posting this. I think it's time we become more pro active and petition the people we have in the media to our best advantage. There are important stories to be told that would benefit the whole country.

I have written before about doing an expose on the Bush family history all the way back to FDR through to the coup of 2000, and correlating it with the imminent threat to social security as their end game to dismantle the New Deal. I may sound like a broken record here, not to be annoying, but I can clearly envision this story causing a major shakedown if it is put in the correct context.

Thank you for the resources too.

9. We definitely need clarity of message(s)...

and a concerted effort to insert truth into the national dialogue.

The right-wing media is literally re-writing history. So many things have gone off the rails, but we can get back on track, imho.

We have to start doing things with much more of a united front and make use of new media much more effectively.

The right gets away with telling the same lie over and over again until their audience believes it. Why can't we just tell some simple truths over and over again until it sinks in?

We need much better messaging.

You're not annoying, and good luck with your focus.

:hi:
