Unemployment Extension & Tier 5 Congressional Letter Campaign.

Unemployment Extension & Tier 5 Congressional Letter Campaign. The American 99ers union started a letter writing campaign on Friday which seeks to flood Congress with reasons why they need to pass the unemployment extension during the lame duck session.

Congress will meet this week, then take the week of Thanksgiving off. Then, they will reconvene until business is completed – which isn’t expected to be any later than Christmas Eve. Their main focus, is, of course the passage of Bush Tax Cuts. Many politicians are quick to point out that it isn’t the passage of Tax cuts they are concerned about – it’s the ability to keep taxes where they are.

However, the unemployment extension is more important than the tax cuts, the DREAM Act, or any other problem Congress can tackle during the lame duck:

“The American 99ers Union* reminds you that America’s economic system is based upon the laws of supply and demand. Right now there are over 5 million 99ers with an additional 99,000 being added each month, who can no longer invest in our Nation’s economy through the purchase of goods and services. How will America ever return to profitability, in turn saving American businesses and preserving the jobs of working Americans, unless the economy is brought back to health? Stimulating the economy can best be done – according to leading economists – by creating jobs and giving “99ers” extended benefits that will allow them to purchase goods and services. With the National Unemployment Rate at 9.5% percent or above for 15 months, unemployment insurance will allow for an immediate return on Washington’s investment by allowing a 60% return on every dollar invested.”

Despite that, there’s little talk of an unemployment extension in the news. Many are hoping that the cries of the 99ers are not falling on deaf ears – and that’s the purpose behind the Congressional Letter Campaign.

You can download the letter and get instructions on how to fax it for free from your computer by visiting the American 99ers union Web site.
