Kamala Harris (D) more than doubles lead in state attorney general's race
San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris holds a 31,483-vote lead over Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley in the attorney general's race entering today's ballot count.

Harris, a Democrat, more than doubled her lead Monday. She held a 14,089- vote lead entering the day's count of vote-by-mail, provisional and damaged ballots.

When polls closed Nov. 2, Cooley (R) declared victory, but by early Nov. 3, Harris led by almost 15,000 votes.

Kevin Spillane, a senior consultant with the Cooley campaign, said last week the outcome may not be decided until Thanksgiving or the Nov. 30 deadline for counties to complete their vote counts. "It's going to be a very close race," Spillane said.

On Sunday, Ace Smith, Harris' chief strategist, claimed "recent developments in Los Angeles County have made it abundantly clear that Steve Cooley's campaign is attempting to disqualify as many provisional ballots as possible" and called on the Cooley campaign to "immediately cease any tactics designed to disenfranchise voters."

4. Desperation time for the repukes: They're pleading for vote monitors!
http://www.californiawatch.org/watchblog/gop-pleads-vote-monitors-cooley-harris-race-6710

“The Cooley campaign needs more bodies ... it's that simple. Provisional ballots were being checked throughout the day today, and will be for days to come, at about 100 different stations at the LA County Registrar's Office in Norwalk. Harris' campaign had about a dozen people there today, Cooley had about half that. We need more bodies."

The latest plea for vote-counting monitors prompted Harris to warn Cooley against crossing the line, saying Cooley officials have crowded election workers “and aggressively attempt(ed) to have ballots disqualified.” Harris said "any systematic effort to disqualify votes is morally wrong and unbefitting California's next attorney general."

Indeed.

7. and this result means a Democratic sweep of all of California's statewide offices
Heralding a demographic change that is beginning to spread across the nation and in so doing make it more progressive.
