It was a quiet little blurb in the paper.

So, can we expect a true Democrat to represent the Democratic party in Florida next?

1. Saw that the other day - should we wish for Scott Maddox back?
At least he invigorated the FDP a little more.

Frankly, my knowledge of the history of the FDP is too spotty to have a good suggestion. Scott was in charge when I joined after the 2004 election, but I've had a lot of crap happen in my life that prevented me from staying active and I have not stayed up to date with anything. I know know that when I joined the Leon County Democratic Executive Committee back then there was almost no party apparatus in evidence locally and we were trying to rebuild from scratch. From being happy to have less than twenty locals meeting in the basement of FDP headquarters, the local Democratic committee has grown to needing a much larger meeting space in City Hall. Most of that growth happened when Scott first took charge of the state and pushed for the local committee to grow.

2. Maddox's problem was that he was spending too much time running for Governor and not enough time
being party chair.

8. True, even though he resigned once he actually filed to run
He was lining up support and setting himself up for a run.

The local anti-uncontrolled development crowd around here (Leon County) don't like Maddox since he was involved with a poorly designed, unneeded subdivision that got by the planning department against the wishes of most of the county. Problem is, since then, even more bad developments have gotten through and now we have lost one of our best advocates for responsible planning and gotten a corporate financed shill instead - Nick Mattock (sp?), who had never even registered to vote until he filed to run for county commissioner. I wonder how much worse off locally we would have been if we HAD supported Scott Maddox?

5. I beg to differ
and I am not getting drunk, yet. I would be happy to run the party, but they would need to get busy. How about fielding some candidates? Enough with republicans running unopposed! You can't win if you don't run.

11. career
actually restricts me to only non-partisan races. I have considered this. For now, with a kid in college, I simply need the cash. She is my youngest and a junior. In a few years, she graduates and I can pull a pension. Options open up. :-)

6. Maybe we can get Mark Brewer out up here in Michigan?
Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 06:46 PM by UrbScotty
I mean, he'd been very successful until recently. Then, starting with the primary debacle in 2007-08, he has been responsible for dropping the ball many times. We lost 21 seats in the state House, Republicans will have a 26-12 majority in the Senate, and an incumbent Supreme Court Justice - a Democrat - lost his bid to stay on the Supreme Court. Incumbent justices almost NEVER lose their seats here in Michigan.
