President Obama Should Take Page Out of President Bartlet's Book
President Obama should have and still should take a page out of TV President Josiah Bartlet's book. In season 5, the show The West Wing did a take on the 1995 government shutdown. In that episode President Bartlet was trying to negotiate an end to the government shutdown. The Republicans attempted to embarrass President Bartlet by making him wait in the halls of the capitol. After waiting for a period of time one of President Bartlet's aides told him to leave, which is what President Bartlet did. President Bartlet's leaving made the Republicans' tactic backfire on them. I think President Obama should do something similar in terms of his meeting with the Republican leadership.

President Obama should have and still should tell the Republican leadership either you meet with me on November 18 or you do not meet with me at all. President Obama should then say I am the President of the United States of America and you meet with me on my schedule not yours. If you are having problems dealing with your conference or with getting your conference together deal with it at another time.

I realize that this could be said to pose a threat to the President Obama in that it may anger American citizens. However, I think Americans will not be angry with President Obama. I think people will feel President Obama is well within his rights. He did give them two weeks notice. In addition, the reason given for the Republican leadership not being able to attend the meeting is not a significant reason.

1. This is what I posted in another thread
You were invited to a party if you don't want to come then
don't complain when you are not invited again
your choice

It is nice to know that they feel they are more important than than the President
Perhaps that is the only time he has available for you.
You know he has two wars to manage that you started, an economy that you destroyed,
trying to figure out how to get people back to work. A country that is so full of
hate that you add more fuel to every day.

2. Better yet, he should threaten the cons with the threat of going on TV
and telling the people all the dirty shit he has on republicans. Starting with how they plan to stop Social Security, give tax cuts to the rich bastards who sent our jobs overseas, how they financed their campaigns and who their real allegiance are to.

Ah hell, he should do it anyway!

3. I was thinking about the episode just the other night.
It was a brilliant piece of writing.

Obama should do it and prove to us that he's still the one in charge.
