Nevada high court overturns $58 million judgment

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Supreme Court has overturned a $58.6 million judgment awarded to a Hong Kong businessman who said he helped Las Vegas Sands Corp. win a gambling license in Macau.

The high court says in an order filed Thursday that a district judge should not have admitted hearsay statements during the 2008 trial.

In May of that year, a jury decided Richard Suen should be compensated for helping to set up a series of meetings between company executives and members of the Chinese government in July 2001.

Suen filed his lawsuit in 2004 after failing to reach a compensation agreement with the company.
