The party of NO and the crisis
I will be honest, I was thinking... the crisis will come with the debt ceiling. I mean be so obvious it will be hard to deny. Alas we are there. We are in the midst of a yet to be fully recognized Constitutional Crisis. Yes, ONE Senator can freeze the government and there is nothing that can be done about it.

I was expecting, silly me, for the Republicans to do this AFTER January, but Jon Kyl is doing it RIGHT NOW with the START treaty.

First, proving it is not about country, but party. He don't care about the nation.

Second: Proving that he don't know squat about foreign affairs. This treaty is no joke and this could let a certain genie out of the bottle that will be extremely hard to put back. Yes, they will blame the Democrats... but that is not the point. The crisis is here.

Upcoming attractions might include the not raising of the debt ceiling, which could potentially bring down the Baking System and while some of you will cheer, the pain will be something most of you cannot fathom... and the only reason why I can intellectually is the Ciudades Perdidas.

Krugman hinted at it this morning... late Professor, some of us have been singing this song for a while. Glad you could join us.

But this will also bring the Empire down, FAST. Most Imperial falls are sudden to those not paying attention and come from overreach both military (check) and economic (check)...

Worst case scenarios are not something I want to contemplate at the moment, suffice it to say that we are quickly reaching the end game.

Yes, TSA maters (shows the dysfunction as well) but we may not have to worry about the Amendments and the Constitution, if we are reduced to shelter and food... and the polarization will lead to folks blaming each other, and the fighting might be something to behold.

Of course we may see easily the rise of a fascist movement... no, the tea party, while proto fascist, is not fascism yet... nor is TSA incidentally.

Folks, things are coming to a head... and Jon Kyl has brought the crisis. It is not in the future... it is now. And if it gets bad enough... well unemployment extension and social security may not matter in a year... Of course that is very much an absolute worst case. On the bright side the absolute worst case usually don't happen... but this is getting close to it.

Welcome to the crisis... it is here.

2. Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

And I am sitting here at my keyboard, listening for the song of the Valkyries, hearlding the fallen. But I suppose that Valkyries do not come for dead empires.

I agree, that we are listening to the first loud whimpers of death throws. Repulbicans acting out pure political tantrums to bring down a Presidential administration, and so short sighted they can't see past the ends of their own noses.

Batten down the hatches. It's likely to be a bumpy ride.

3. I am feeling like it is getting close to
becoming one of the masses, for survival sake. The crisis is here... and will be nasty... hopefully short and sharp...

4. It is a crises, but a slow motion crises.
Just as the Soviet Union did not fall in a day, we will not fall.

I think that we are seeing real affects of a slow motion train wreck that has been ocurring around us since Obama took office. Republicans made the decison that nation did not matter, only power.

I still find it amazing that so many are burried so deep into their own ideology that they can not see what is hapening.

6. The real begining was 2006.
Republicans were in total disaray, and decided that they weren't conservative enough. That plan went into full swing with the useful idiots known as the Tea Party.

They don't care about governing, only power. The real question we should all consider is that once they go to these lengths to get power back, what will they do with it? What will they do to keep it?

8. I just had a thought....
The TSA scandals working perfectly as a disinformation campaign to keep most people from looking hard at the continuing Constitutional Crises.

But that is Tin foil hat thinking.

14. The analogy I've used for awhile is Obama as Gorbachev
He is trying to patch a system that is broken and will not hold.

10. I think I would hate to be in DC when shit hits the fan. The first place
to put blame is on the leaders. When people in the cities get desperate they will not care who is in the way. They are just going to hit back. I say cities here not because I think they are more violent but because they are more vulnerable. And there are less avenues of escape when the crisis comes.

11. Agreed
and it will get ugly...

You know here I am writing a class on Mexican History. And while there is plenty of myth, it is ever present... unlike here. We forgot already the last crisis 2000, and this one will make that one look like navel grazing... even if that one is the long pattern that is taking us to this moment.

One tends to get philosophical when one reads things like this

According to Jose Moreno Villa in Mexico “History is alive. Nobody has died, in spite of the murders and the firing squads. Chuatémoc, Cortéz. Maximilian, Don Porfirio, and all the Conquistadors. This is what is original about Mexico. All the past is the present. The past has never died. The past has never happened, the past has not stopped.”

Here the past is a distant and alien country, one that is better left to mummify... I hope that changes with this crisis.

12. It is interesting that you say that - here on the reservation that is also
true. It is both good in that it allows you to have deep roots and bad because it sometimes limits the horizon.

13. Absolutely
I was going to use the same intro, but it just don't work the same way.

Someday that might change in whatever comes out to replace the country.
