Our post Thanksgiving ritual (Not shopping)
Our post-Thanksgiving ritual is that hubby and I go to the cemeteries of our departed Grandparents and my sister and lay holiday wreaths on their graves. None of the other family members come (nor are they invited) although they know we do this. It's a time for us to think of our past and those that loved us and still do. Perhaps they're around to give a miracle or two our way.

2. When I was a florist, this was the biggest weekend of the year...

...to sell grave blankets, wreaths, cemetery cones. I think much of it was because out of town family members came home, and could take older widows and widowers who couldn't do it themselves out to do the cemetery.

For many years, I was the only one in my family who went out to the local municipal cemetery where all of my mother's relatives are buried to take care of the graves. None of my cousins who still live in the area ever bothered. I had to quit doing this 2 years ago when the township passed an ordinance to "clean up" the cemetery, and they basically banned everything except American flags on Veteran's graves and fresh cut flowers. Now, I don't think anyone goes there to speak of.
