Not that I am defending "Sister Sarah" (Palin) but this latest "error"
Edited on Thu Nov-25-10 11:44 PM by redirish28
Of her saying South Korea instead of North Korea when she was talking. Is everyone jumping on this because it is just latest in the long line of stupidity on her part or are we being just vicious?

I ask only because Let's face it we all mis-speak from time to time. Perhaps I'm bring this up because my wife--has at one time or another mis-spoken. Not trying to she just gets tongue tied. Now granted she isn't out there speaking professionally or anything like that. But I would say her 57 state rant on Thanksgiving is more of a gaft and personally I think- than anything else.

1. Did you know that she was quoting Obama
Edited on Thu Nov-25-10 11:48 PM by tabatha
who misspoke and said 57 states.

The issue is that after Obama gaffed he did not make a big deal about it - or about the fact that the media made a big deal about it.

Sarah is being over-sensitive.

3. ahhh I see. Perhaps I'm being oversensitive myself. My wife was
"debating" an issue about why the unemployment insurance vote needs to pass to a conservative "friend" and she mis-spoke a word and the friend fixsated on that and tore down her argument by way of fixsating on the mis-spoken word.

she surely knows we are allies with South Korea. No big deal there. She still is unqualified to be president and we don't need to harp on about a misstatement to prove that.

9. Does she?
I'm not so sure. The worst part is that if she is serious about running she really needs to learn to think before she speaks. She tends to just blurt out things without apparently giving much thought to how it sounds to those listening. I think she is also typical of the kind of right-wing wacko that spouts talking points while much of the time not having any idea what their really talking about and if challenged unable to give any defense except more talking points.

19. I actually thought she said "South Korean allies" a few moments later in that
same passage. Just a mis-quote but she deserves being pounced on as, like posted above, she pounced all over the 57 states thing (or whatever he said).

The difference is, I'm not really sure she KNEW until recently, probably, the difference between N and S Korea, and I doubt she knows WHY the country is divided.

For all we know Beck quickly jumped up and wrote it in capitals on his blackboard for her, or she scrawled it on the palm of her hand, so she wouldn't forget.

She's probably going to start trying to crawl out of it with the excuse that she said it on purpose just to test Beck, or something.

I do not believe that she misspoke. She really did not know. If she had simply misspoken, she would have caught herself when Beck tried to help her out right afterwards.

Worse still, she probably STILL doesn't know.

7. Lol, but your wife is not running for the WH is she?
Do you think we should have someone in the WH who doesn't know who the 'enemy' is? I think we expect a little more from those who claim they are qualified to be POTUS than of ordinary citizens who are not making that claim.

I doubt she misspoke, she appears to be extremely ignorant about major issues and it boggles my mind that she ever made it to the Governor's office in Alaska. I imagine that state must be very embarrassed that they ever voted for her.

She does prove though that we should have some kind of test for people running for high office, some kind of standards. This woman doesn't know who our allies are and who our enemies are. That I hope totally disqualifies her from ever running for anything again. Not that even without this, someone who quits elected office in order to cash in on fame should never be considered for any responsible job in public office.

13. She's a bully with no sense of maturity.
Sure, we all mis-speak.
BUT when in the company of other mature adults,
we see beyond the error, and give one another a modicum of grace,
to accept a simple error, and get on with the message.

MRs. Palin has no grace; she gives no one the benefit of the doubt,
and is forever jumping on any simple error or mis-step of
the president. She will take any percieved stumble and turn it into
a nuclear reaction. If we were to take any and all errors and misjudgments
of PalinSpeak, we could fill a set of encyclopedae.

She blusters her way into any debate, arguing with no
substance, and throwing up any and all verbage that makes no sense.
She leaves no room for nuance or reflective thought,
but overreacts at the speed of light.

Yet when she is treated the same way, treated as an equal in the
debate, she cries 'victim' and appeals to chivalry, as if expecting
her to play according to rules is beneath her dignity as a woman:
"Oh, you're picking on me! I'm just a poor girl!"
Bullshit! Mrs, Palin, if you expect to be accepted as an equal player at the
field of world affairs, pull up your Big Girl socks, and take your blows!
Maybe the media gets a hard on when you bat your phony lashes,
but there are leaders in the world who won't fall down at your
high heels; because of you, the world snickers at us behind closed doors.

Palin plays this same game concerning her children: she parades them in
public, but disparages any and all comments about their appearances,
their words and deeds, BUT hell will descend on anyone who
brings them into the conversation. Her comments on Willow's facebook
anti-gay comments? "Stop picking on her, she's a child!"
Teach her some manners.

As a mother and former teacher, I was a defender of "poor" BRistol during
some of the ridiculous "Dancing with STars" debates, but her childish comments about 'haters'
during the last weeks revealed that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Why would anyone who favored a superior dancer to her.. be a hater? Grow up!

I've never heard a soul criticize her poor husband Todd, but she spares
nothing to MIchelle Obama, who is the perfect example of grace in the spotlight.
Where is her sense of sisterhood? Does not exist.

Just recently her criticism of President Kennedy, and then her comments about
the Bush family (deemed as elder statesment in the GOP Pantheon) reveal just
how malicious she is to her own tradition. Who's next, Abraham Lincoln?

What Mrs. Palin demonstrates more than anything else is her glaring
lack of trustworthiness; I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw
the state of Alaska. She's always seeking target for her paranoia,
and she would as soon sink her knives into you as pick your pocket.
By her words and deeds she shows the world that there is no substance,
and would gladly push the button of destruction to prove her
doctrinaire beliefs.

Maybe. But the Queen of mean has to be able to take it if she wants to dish it out.

I refuse to cut her any slack. Yeah. We all misspeak at one time or another, but she would be the first to pounce on any verbal misstep uttered by a Democrat and do it with a gotcha kind of glee.

The RW smear machine started this so they should be well aware that it will be dished back at them. I'm sick of turning the other cheek when it comes to those mean spirited twits.

Obama briefly and mistakenly referred to "57 states" during the 2008 campaign. Incredibly, the Freeps still bring this up over two years later as an example of what an unintelligent fool the president is. Since Palin actually is an unintelligent fool, why can't we hype her verbal typos?

Why do we always have to be the nice guys? Is this why we always finish last?

35. Palin has more to lose with gaffes
This particular gaffe was huge for several reasons. Palin has a whole different imperative going on. She needed to show her international knowledge prowess, she needed to attempt to repair her image of not being so bright, she needed to be promoting an image of someone who can be trusted to have the key to the nuclear bombs during a 2AM crisis.

This recent gaffe was big because of it's context and overall message of Sarah's Presidential presence. Yes, whether it's fair or not, she had more on the line here than Bush or Obama had. And while Bush had many gaffes, he was already President, and frankly many weren't as terrifying as the potential Palin exudes. None of Palin's gaffe have been remotely funny...more along the lines of ludicrous, informative, scarey, humiliating, telling.
