Jindal: As Rove says, GOP is on probation because it failed the last time around

by Jed Lewison

Bobby Jindal on Meet the Press, explaining why he thinks the GOP is on a short leash:

<...>

I think there's so much focus on the messenger, what's more important is the message.

The Republican Party -- Karl Rove says we're on probation, he's right. We're on borrowed time. Four years ago we blew it because the Republican Party defended earmarks and spending we would never accept.

Two things in response:

  1. Given that Jindal believes the GOP is on probation for failing the last time around, it's hilarious that he cites Karl Rove to make his point...given that it was Karl Rove who has leading the show the last time around.

  2. The GOP didn't fail in 2006 and 2008 because of spending and earmarks. It failed because the Bush Administration and Republicans in Congress mismanaged Katrina, the war in Iraq, and the economy. In addition, to some extent, the Mark Foley scandal reduced evangelical turnout in 2006. But spending was not anywhere on the radar screen. And earmarks were only an issue insofar as they were used corruptly -- but in general, people like the idea of having their Representative have input in how federal money is spent.
Jindal has an extremely earnest demeanor and he talks very fast. But the more you listen to him, the more you realize all that means is that he's got incredible power to back an enormous amount of bullshit into a very tight space.

1. The GOP failed because Reaganomics failed
They championed a losing economic strategy

2. They didn't just fail the last time around
they failed the time before that and the time before that, and so on and so on. Republicans where born to fail, there right wing nut job views are not sustainable in a real life situation.

4. Jindal wants to be the first Indian-American president. He will say & do whatever to keep his name
in the public mind.

He also will never be President.

5. Actually they have suceeded beyond expectations...
Just check out the redistribution of wealth to the upper 1% over the last thirty years.

And now they want to finish the job with "deficit reduction" and "austerity measures."
