I really thought he'd do better. If only we had someone better to replace him with. I wouldn't say the state party is as strong as it needs to be, frankly.

whether it's a progressive celebrity, a high profile Democratic political figure or the like. Not that I'm suggesting he run for the seat, but someone with the stature of Al Gore (who possesses both of the above qualities) would be needed to defeat her in a primary. She's got powerful friends on both sides of the aisle and she's as entrenched as anyone I've ever seen in politics.

On the other hand, at least she's no Joe Lieberman.

45. Mary Landrieu is cooking her own goose as Karl Rove dances a jig
"Rove Seeks Challenger to Landrieu

Without fanfare or national media attention, White House strategist Karl Rove went to Louisiana the weekend before last to woo State Treasurer John Kennedy (D) to the GOP and into the 2008 Senate race against Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA).

Republican insiders see Landrieu as the most vulnerable Democratic senator up for reelection next year, but with none of the GOP members of the Congressional delegation stepping up to the plate, party strategists are looking elsewhere. Kennedy has good poll numbers statewide and would be a formidable challenger to the Senator."

55. Murray's speech was the worst apologia
Edited on Thu May-24-07 09:00 PM by Strawman
Did she dig up Herbert Hoover to write it? Pathetic.

I have alot of respect for Carl Levin. That's why I was profoundly dissapointed in his vote today and the weak rationale he gave for it. If the Dems can't do anything to end this war, maybe the Democrats should just go the fuck home and stay there until it gets so fantastically mind-blowingly shitty that the Republicans are forced to bring the troops home by angry mobs with torches and pitchforks. In the absence of a draft that beings the war home to more people, God knows when that will happen.

It's all up to the Republicans. That was the message from all the Dems voting for this bill I heard on C-Span2. How long can they keep kicking the can down the road? When will they decide to fight? Does anyone really think they will have a veto proof majority to end the war in the fall? If they're LUCKY they'll have a veto proof majority for toothless "benchmarks."

End the fucking war already. Shut down the fucking government like the Republicans did.
