About long term unemployment, and taxes.
Those unfortunate enough to be unemployed for two plus years, will be broke. They will not have enough to pay taxes on their money, and still not live in boxes. When they run out of benefits, they will certainly not be in any position to pay taxes. There must be almost a majority of 99'ers that are owing thousands of dollars they will never have. What will the gov DO with them? Take their SS when they recieve it? Thereby making them starve? Put them in labor camps? Charge relatives? Confiscate their cars and possessions, guaranteeing they will never find work? Any efforts to recoup monies from the destitute, will certainly cost more than they will recoup.

What is to become of the unfortunate?

1. I they can't pay their property taxes, the local government will sell
the tax obligation and if it isn't paid off in a certain amount of time, the sheriff will sell their homes at auction to pay off the liens.

Most people are required to pay withholding tax on their income, so unlike Wesley Snipes, they won't be prosecuted for tax evasion.

3. That's not entirely true
On unemployment, you are given the option to withhold taxes or not.

5. However, people relying solely on unemployment
are not likely to owe any federal income tax and most would likely receive a refund if taxes were withheld. Local property taxes are another thing, but if the unemployed are still making their mortgages, the property taxes are probably escrow-ed and are still being paid. If the owner is unable to make the payments and is behind on their taxes; they should consult their local county and city offices and inquire about hardship programs for owners in distress.

6. SS will withold for student loans and child support.
there might be a couple of other things they will take it for. I'm not sure, so check to see if taxes is one of them.

4. That is why the Government's number one priority should be jobs.
What does HCR do for these people? The economy needed to be jump started a whole lot earlier.
