WP: Governor says “extortion”; State issues “consumer alert” warning that Feinberg “works for BP”
Edited on Sun Nov-28-10 01:20 PM by Generic Other
After Thanksgiving, Feinberg will start offering lump-sum payments to people ready to settle all present and future claims - giving up their rights to file lawsuits.

But not everyone is buying into his plan.

Last Friday, a senior Justice Department official sent a letter to Feinberg warning of "concerns" over the pace of the claims process, the "overbroad" release forms for settlements, and the need for "additional transparency." The letter said "the success of the GCCF must be judged by whether the people of the Gulf feel fairly treated."

Earlier this month, Alabama Gov. Bob Riley (R) called Feinberg's claims process "extortion," and outgoing Alabama Attorney General Troy King issued a "consumer alert" warning people that Feinberg "works for BP." Feinberg was named by President Obama, though BP is paying him and four other lawyers at his firm $850,000 a month to run the fund.

So Feinberg gets $850,000 a month as a government employee whose sole job is to prevent eligible victims of BP's negligence from getting fair settlements from the company? I find this outrageous. Let's see, Feinberg was appointed in June. That's $4,250,000 since June 17th.

So tell me how he's some good guy looking out for the interests of the citizens of the Gulf.

1. How soon before he's made more money than he's dispersed?
This kind of corruption makes me sick. Rotten to the core.

that's actually the M.O. of "social fascists": pass a far-right program, a far-rightist criticizes it, experts and jurists pile on in defense of the far-right program against the far-right critic. case in point: Virginia's Cuccinelli and the Thomas More Center; they sue agaist H"C"R mandates, and the Dems circle the wagons around Nixon and Romney's law

the process all sounds inane when I lay out here as a post--but that's veritably what happens!

GOP opposition and outcry has inoculated GOP policies like mandates, the "withdrawal" from Iraq, the pittance of Wall Street reforms, TARP, etc.

5. Yup. Worked well when they attacked Clinton.
Fair-minded people came to his defense, thus giving him cover to allow passage of NAFTA, Welfare "Reform" and the repeal of Glass-Steagal, not to mention sanctions on Iraq.
They're doing the same to/for Obama as this latest "shellacked" election provides him with incentive to move further right. SOP.
It is inane yet it works because most people are fair-minded and will defend someone who is unfairly attacked, especially one of their own. Plus it takes more effort to watch what is done rather than what is said.

Wag the doggies.
