My kid is dead in the middle of this fight now.

It was not always so - my brother in law did "snatch and grabs" earlier in the war.

He was so disgusted - he quit - and that man has 15 rows of ribbons down his left side. Took a lot for him to let go - you know. Three wars plus.

I define the army by the kids - I do - and in that way I think so highly of them.

I always will - but I know - there is that other side.

My dear god -

Protect those dumb kids, They have no idea -

1. What I keep thinking is something my mom said about WWII.

She said, among her friends, that the younger brothers died. Was it because the ones who enlisted on December 8, 1941 (December 9 in my uncle's case because the family hates crowds)got a chance to gain enough training and experience to keep them alive and their kid brothers, coming a year or so later, didn't? We know we're skinting on training now. And I keep thinking about those younger brothers who never came home.

2. I think there is something to it.

My dad went into theater and he said (he was a fighter pilot) that five went in and he was the sole survivor a few weeks later -

I think it is no accident that replacements didn't live very long.
