First WikiLeaks spilled the guts of government. Next up: The private sector, starting with one major American bank.

In an exclusive interview earlier this month, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange told Forbes that his whistleblower site will release tens of thousands of documents from a major U.S. financial firm in early 2011. Assange wouldn’t say exactly what date, what bank, or what documents, but he compared the coming release to the emails that emerged in the Enron trial, a comprehensive look at a corporation’s bad behavior.

“It will give a true and representative insight into how banks behave at the executive level in a way that will stimulate investigations and reforms, I presume,” he told me.

His journalism won him awards, then he was pushed out of journalism by the very paper that had hired him, then quite a few years later, he died, either from suicide or from someone with a vendetta.

It is probably a bank that fired a lot of top people. That could mean any of them.

Bank of America. As a former top executive, I am a witness of its wrong-doings. Some that I reported and some that others reported but never any action was taken other than federal investigators drinking coolaid with BofA Attorneys. You would never imagine that a Bank within USA could be so corrupt and intensely dangerous, if I tell you, that it encouraged its own employees to commit suicide by haunting them, daily interrogations and many more worst crimes, including orchestrating burgularies (getting its confidential material back) etc.

Worst....WORST bank I've ever dealt with. Fees for walking in the door. Screwing up accounts until nobody can trace a transaction.

America's Biggest Bank, he said, "No comment."

Assange: “At the moment, for example, we are sitting on 5 gigabytes from Bank of America, one of the executive’s hard drives. Now how do we present that? It’s a difficult problem.”

Julian Assange talked about BofA last year in an interview with Computer World, claiming "he had acquired a large cache of information from Bank of America."

He specified that he has 5GB of material on the company.From one of the top exec's computers.

tho I do wish he would not wait so long to release the info.

BOA is down to 10.00 from a high of over 45.00 couple of years ago.

But there are also industries that just have more secrecy, so you must know there are things you want that you haven’t gotten.

That’s right. Within the intelligence industry is one example. They have a higher level of secrecy. And that’s also true of the banking industry.

Other industries that are extremely well paid, say Goldman Sachs, might have higher incentives not to lose their jobs.

So it’s only the obvious things that we want: Things concerning intelligence and war, and mass financial fraud. Because they affect so many people so severely.

And they’re harder leaks to get.

To keep people in control, you only need to make them scared. The CIA is not scared as an institution of people leaking. It’s scared that people will know that people are leaking and getting away with it. If that happens, the management loses control.

And WikiLeaks has the opposite strategy?

That’s right. It’s summed up by the phrase “courage is contagious.” If you demonstrate that individuals can leak something and go on to live a good life, it’s tremendously incentivizing to people.

I've been hoping that wikileaks would turn its eye of truth on private endeavors.

But I have to wonder how that Assange guy is going to live. It would seem to me this guy would be marked for death. You piss off governments, that's one thing. Piss off people with money, that's something else entirely.

1. Travel in any private airplane or small aircraft.

2. Stay alone in a hotel room.

3. Walk down a side walk in front of anyone with a very pointy umbrella.

4. Have drinks in a hotel bar in London without carrying a Geiger Counter.

I pray that he has copies of the information scattered about so that taking his life or disappearing him will not stop the release of these documents.

Julian Assange is a very brave hero. However, I fear for his life.

I think he has disseminated copies.

But that would imply that he would have some sort of safety deposit box in a bank to do this. But if he's attacking the banks and hasn't specified which one he's going after, I wonder what each of them are doing with any safety deposit boxes he might have?

I was thinking that keeping an open threat like this through the holidays was insurance for him to not get outed, but one wonders what the banks will do to "cover it up" if he's outing one of them. Perhaps each one will check to see if he's got a safety deposit box with them to see if they might be "safe". On the other hand, perhaps he's playing games with them and putting safety deposit boxes in with each one of them. Then he can check at the time he announces which bank he's targeting who's "messed" with his box as a signal that he should go after them next!
