And the GOP Hypocrite of the Week is.... (((REALLY GROSS)))
Edited on Fri May-25-07 12:12 AM by demobabe
Ted Klaudt.

First off, let us just say that we could start a new BuzzFlash GOP Sexual Predator of the Week site, based on the number of stories we come across. It is astonishing how many hardcore (so to speak) evangelists, ministers, congressmen, state legislators, mayors, and so on, of the Republican persuasion are exposed as perverts.

So we are selective about the ones we honor as BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrites of the Week, because otherwise we couldn't concentrate on the numerous other areas of GOP Hypocrisy.

But Ted Klaudt, a rather hefty former GOP honcho in the South Dakota legislature, deserves special mention. We'll go right to the news story from May 18:

A former South Dakota lawmaker is accused of molesting his own foster children and legislative pages.

Ted Klaudt, 49, a Republican rancher from Walker, faces a long list of charges: eight counts of rape, two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, two counts of witness tampering, sexual contact with a person under 16, and stalking.

Court documents mention five possible victims. Three were foster children between the ages of 15 and 19 who lived with Klaudt's family. One is a cousin of one of those girls, and the fifth is a friend of Klaudt's daughter.

In the most disturbing accusation, the girls say Klaudt had them convinced they could earn up to $20,000 by donating their eggs to a fertility clinic. And even though he has no medical training, the girls say Klaudt did all the supposed "exams" and "procedures" himself.

2. And to top it all off, they always back legislation that would save the public from people like THEM
While Ted Klaudt served in the legislature, his name was attached to several bills designed to protect children from sex abuse. Klaudt served in the South Dakota House from 1998 to 2006. He served on the appropriations as well as the government operations and audit committees. And while in office, he co-sponsored several bills that took aim at sex offenders.

Klaudt was one of the house members who introduced legislation in 2006 that added more teeth to South Dakota's sex offender laws. The bill further defined sex crimes and spelled out new requirements for when, where and how sex offenders register in the state.

3. These guys get bitten by their own legislation far more often
than we generally hear about.

Some bonehead in TX screamed and wailed about "frivolous law suits" and succeeded in ramrodding a bill through the TX Leg to cap payouts by the insurance companies. Not long after that, in a tragic auto accident, his son was paralyzed and will live out the rest of his life as a complete dependent. He got the max under the new TX law his asshole father pushed for, I think it was a ridiculous sum, something like $50,000 for care, for the REST OF HIS LIFE. Of course, this GOP lovebuddy decided that the law didn't apply to HIS son, but he lost on all accounts.

As for the son...my heart goes out to him, no one should have to go through that...but he can blame his father, and live w/him the rest of his life in virtual poverty because he can longer live a life he dreamed of...:(

As for these "holier than thou" types, I think God has a great sense of humor and timing, but it so sad that these poor girls had to go through this. I am not an advocate of the death penalty, I think this guy, if convicted, should have to spend the rest of his life in prison thinking about what he did, the trust he broke, the moral code he spoke so highly of came back to destroy his hypocritical life. Most of all, the young lives he tried, and maybe succeeded in destroying, should haunt him every moment of his miserable life.

Irony, not something people do to shirts on a Sat morning...:)

4. That is tragic...
...$50,000 for all your life's dreams.

Criminals often want to get caught, but that doesn't explain the Texas guy's son getting crippled in a horrible accident.

I would hope this guy was in prison for the rest of his life for this. Other prisoners don't take well to daughter-rapers - he may well get some special "exams" of his own. What a sick guy.

5. There is no excuse for what he allegedly did...very few things
can turn my usual good outlook into pure disgust and anger...but sex offenders are one of them, particularly when children are involved...
