9. Well, it's a Democratic success, so that's bad...
Something like that, I guess. Who knows? I'm sure we'll hear more.

10. I THINK patrice is referring to the general belief that this has no chance in
hell passing in the Senate, so it's being called political theater. I don't know how that plays into anybody's hands, though, so I may be misunderstanding the post.

The Senators all signed a letter saying they will not vote to pass this unless it includes a tax extension for ALL, and we don't have the votes to get it through.

I can't believe the balls of these people - I don't know how much longer they think their constituents will believe their crap.

18. Doesn't it play into their hands by showing the "lack of support" for reducing the Deficit by increa
sing revenues, i.e. ending tax cuts, so, what OTHER way is there to reduce the deficit???? Cuts to programs. First up? Medicare.

19. Yet it does produce an opportunity to expose Republican resentment of the middle class.
The only real concern is whether Obama and the Dems will make that point properly.

20. Why do you say the rich will hold on to their tax cuts? If this doesn't
pass in the Senate (which it won't, apparently), won't ALL tax cuts expire at the end of the year?

I saw your post this morning, but I didn't quite understand what you were saying, and I guess I'm not quite getting it now. Wouldn't the revenue go towards reducing the deficit?

23. How do we say to them "No free rides!" When they can say to us "You're taking one."
We could corner them on their hypocrisy if we wouldn't give them anything to turn it back on us.

I suspect that's going to be going on anyway; we just shouldn't be giving them any NEW ammunition, because that undercuts anything we're trying to say (now) about CHANGE.

24. Okay - here's where I'm not understanding -- how are we giving them the
opportunity to say to us we're taking free rides? Honestly, patrice, it's me, not you -- It's just not 'clicking' with me. I'm really dense at times, but if you're willing, I'd like to understand the point you're making.

27. Taxes pay for shared resources, some of which make "wealth" creation possible or
at least support it indirectly. Tax cuts are deficit builders, because you are not paying all of the overhead for wealth production/protection, so the wealth production/protection is getting a free ride on shared resources.

If we say free-rides are bad, we can't be taking advantage of one ourselves. I know it's not the same thing, because of the disparity in levels of wealth, but it WILL be called the same thing, a deficit builder, anyway, and for something less than $100. a year, individually, I don't think the collective effect on the deficit is worth it. Plus it puts us in a BAD position relative to Medicare reform.

8. Lazy shits, they should work 24 hours a day until the end of the year.
What useless pieces of shit they all are. What my Dad always said is we need a revolution and that was when things were 1,000% better than they are today.

Obama = Worst leader in the history of mankind.

Dems will be hollering from the rooftops that the Republicans' votes increased Joe Everybody's taxes beginning in January. :hi:

16. Oh, Gately, I wish it would be so. But I fear that we won't get much out of this.
I don't know what to think. Either the American people aren't listening/watching or they will be drinking the Koolaid spin the RW will put on this ("nobody's taxes should be raised in a recession"). We keep saying that stuff like this will wake up the electorate and it never does.

It's good the Dems made a stand, though. Better something rather than nothing...

21. The electorate doesn't pay attention unless it affects them directly -- like the
uproar over the new security procedures at airports. Most of the people I know aren't interested in this at all, not interested in anything going on in Washington until/unless it hits home with them some way. Then all they do is bitch.

And you're so right, the "nobody's taxes should be raised" is in the commercials. Some woman who probably makes $23,000 making the plea for someone who makes 10 times as much, but she doesn't understand that.

ALL they have to say is, if these tax cuts promote hiring/jobs -- WHERE ARE THE FUCKING JOBS? They've had 10 years to "enrich the economy" and all they've done is enrich themselves. I don't understand why we can't get that across. I keep saying we need Rachel up there with her charts and explanations - then everyone would get it. :7

We say it over and over, but do they? It's so depressing...

25. I know - so frustrating and aggravating! Where's Grayson with the sign like
he had for "Die Quickly" -- WHERE ARE THE JOBS?

We have so many facts, so much ammo, we know where the jobs are -- overseas! And those companies are getting tax breaks! If everyone could just be educated to the facts, but we don't seem to be able to get the message out.

What do we do?

I agree - it's sooooo depressing.

Make McConnell own it.

12. God, I hope so -- we should be calling press conferences, getting the message
out there so there's no mistaking who's at fault and WHY.

Not to mention unemployment -- how are they going to explain that to their constituents?
