If people wont at least sign a petition
Edited on Thu Dec-02-10 09:14 PM by RegieRocker
or help with a petition creation that would really test the validity of this Democracy then how can we change anything. A petition called the WILL OF THE PEOPLE. Something extremely substantial. Something that will test the Democracy at it's very core. Something that almost everyone finds very important and can agree on. Can we do at least that? I am unable to start a poll. Ideas anyone?

How about a petition for all governments to fund all (approved by petition) persons running for office. They can us no other money that what is allocated to them. They can not take any free advertising unless by sole individuals at their home, office workplace etc (signs).

Make all bribes or gifts illegal to government officials.

No past present or future involvement with any company doing government contracts.

Require all those running for office to establish a free website with polls for constituents to contact them.

National voting system via internet. Voting card with thumb print verification.

National poll by the government for major topics.

How is that for starters? Once again do you have any ideas?

11. Well I see
plenty of petitions along my travels on the internet. I feel that getting others ideas on a petition is important. Finding one that almost everyone agrees on. If we are unable to agree on a petition topic then we truly have a problem.

How do you expect me to react to your request to sign some hypothetical petition?

Btw, welcome to DU.

4. What exactly is your point? If you want people to sign some petition, shouldn't
you at least provide instructions on where said petition is to be found, to allow people to examine it?

14. It shows that 95% think she's not qualified. In the alternate universe
that's a slam dunk for her shoo in to the White House.

21. It is a start
Do not like the internet voting......paper ballots are the way to go..... need some way to have accurate recount if necessary

Realistic term limits

No lobbying past or future

I could go along with the bribes or gifts

Not sure about the rest of them

22. So you don't like
government funding for running for office so that it levels the playing field? What about using the internet voting for major topics? The no involvement was for someones relative, past employer or they are or were a stockholder in a company getting a government contract.

23. I am sorry
I missed your first one, I thought it was part of your original post
Public financing is fine

For internet voting to work you have to make sure everyone has access

As far as stockholders are concerned, you have to remember that many in congress are very rich people
and hold many stocks. Perhaps what is needed is full disclosure of all holdings.

Like I said it is a start. One does not revamp the structure of government in one night nor one post.

25. Yes, one has to start somewhere
I think you need to start with what you feel are the problems and list them
Perhaps you think that elected politicians are not responsive to the needs are the voices of the people
There might be different ways to fix that, one might be term limits, or there could be better ways and then
not have to worry about term limits.

So figure out what is wrong and then go from there.
