THEIR carrot. THEIR game. Senator Harkin not willing . . .
The objective of THEIR game will eventually be, one way or another, their own tax cut objectives, thank goodness Senator Harkin sees that, even if Speaker Pelosi doesn't. Stand firm against this political theater, Sen. Harkin!

Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, said he would oppose legislation that cuts taxes for upper-income taxpayers, even if it includes an extension of unemployment benefits and the accompanying tax cuts for the poor that the administration is seeking.

7. It's the "ONLY". It will be used as justification to gut Medicare and kill any chance of revisiting
a Public Option.

When you say tax cuts are deficit producing and then keep tax cuts for yourself, you are guaranteeing substantive cuts to programs and the first one on the chopping block IS Medicare.

CHOOSING to take a hit on our own tax cuts, puts us in a much stronger position compared to looking like hypocrites about the deficit by keeping them AND THEN MAKING DEMANDS ON PROGRAMS AND SERVICES.

10. ANY extension of the Bush Tax Cuts, for the Rich and/or the Middle Class IS THE SAME OLD SHELL GAME.
Keeping the Middle Class Tax Cuts ONLY INSURES that the Rich will have a good case to keep theirs. This is political theater that cannot make it through the Senate, without extending the upper bracket tax cuts too, which the President is already soft on. UN-ACCEPTABLE!!!

We agreed to sunset ALL tax cuts. So be it. This will be good for our deficit and, eventually, secure our bond rating.

It won't help the un-employed permanently to put this money back into a corrupt economy that already depends too much on deficit building tax cuts and subsidies.

It will help the un-employed permanently to put this money back into revenues, helping to fix the deficit and thus shoring up investments in SHARED RESOURCES like Medicare and Education and Un-employment benefits.

The price for extending ANY of the Bush Tax cuts WILL be cuts to programs. First up? Medicare.

Don't fall for the old shell game, Democrats! Take a power position by holding out for something better later.
