WikiLeaks site down, Assange close to arrest per ABC/Australia
"The WikiLeaks website has been shutdown worldwide, as British media reports Scotland Yard could arrest the site's founder Julian Assange as early as tomorrow.

WikiLeaks says servers in the United States have killed the site's domain name following "mass attacks".

The domain hosting withdrawal means the website is down worldwide. Earlier this week Amazon booted WikiLeaks from its servers.

Mr Assange's website this week released more than 250,000 secret US diplomatic cables, which has left governments around the world scrambling to deal with the fallout..."

1. Well, if any of you have the insurance file...
Get ready to receive the key. I've gotta feeling it's coming sooner rather than later.

Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. Just finished grabbing my copy off Usenet!

It was posted to alt.binaries.warez.uk, alt.binaries.misc, alt.binaries.boneless. Any NZB finding website will help you track it down.

11. Anyone who has the checksum per the wikileaks page should post it here
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 02:15 AM by Occulus
I just started getting it via priatebay. I would like to know whether this is in fact the actual file (the filename is insurance.aes256), as it would not surprise me in the least for the authorities to have uploaded dummy files full of God knows what, the better to charge in the future those who try to grab it now.

The correct checksum would defeat this tactic. I want to know I'm not downloading a big bucket full of planted child pr0n before I try to open it when they key to the file becomes available.

Full disclosure: as of 2:10AM EST on 12/2/10, I have not completed the download- having just started it- and do not know if this is the authentic file or not, piratebay being what it is and all. I have no intent of downloading any sexually objectionable or exploitative material, and will delete the file without opening it if the checksums do not match.

13. Do a search on btjunkie for insurance.aes256
Click the result that says "WikiLeaks insurance". There's only about 4 files in the whole list of results. That one's genuine.

14. Ii would prefer a screenie of the Wikileaks page that showed the checksum
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 02:37 AM by Occulus
The file is gone from btjunkie. I just checked.

edit: A search on btjunkie for "wikileaks insurance" and for "wikileaks aes256" return no results.

If anyone here uses Carbonite, I would suggest sending the insurance file packaged with a few random text files and then encrypted again using a secure password (such as $%yYowU.:&) to their servers with your regular backups (doing so will alter both the file size and the checksum). We need as many copies of this file in as many places as possible.

17. Can I ask a dumb question??
Not real educated about this stuff...so once it is downloaded, then what? I found where it has gone to but I take it that it cannot be opened without their key?

If you have the patience/time, please explain it like I am a toddler (or Sarah Palin) :)

19. You're very close, the "key" can be gotten over a long period of time IF...IF the file is legit...
...there's nothing like a 100 world wide mathematicians (at the least) working on decrypting this file
