EveryDNS Shuts Down WikiLeaks.org Domain (Blames Denial Of Service Attacks)

EveryDNS.net Status

All systems are functioning normally.

EveryDNS.net provided domain name system (DNS) services to the wikileaks.org domain name until 10PM EST, December 2, 2010, when such services were terminated. As with other users of the EveryDNS.net network, this service was provided for free. The termination of services was effected pursuant to, and in accordance with, the EveryDNS.net Acceptable Use Policy.

More specifically, the services were terminated for violation of the provision which states that "Member shall not interfere with another Member's use and enjoyment of the Service or another entity's use and enjoyment of similar services." The interference at issues arises from the fact that wikileaks.org has become the target of multiple distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks. These attacks have, and future attacks would, threaten the stability of the EveryDNS.net infrastructure, which enables access to almost 500,000 other websites.

Thus, last night, at approximately 10PM EST, December 1, 2010 a 24 hour termination notification email was sent to the email address associated with the wikileaks.org account. In addition to this email, notices were sent to Wikileaks via Twitter and the chat function available through the wikileaks.org website. Any downtime of the wikileaks.org website has resulted from its failure to use another hosted DNS service provider.

I hope Wikieleak can start over, in another place than this... US are not the only place where you can have a domain to do the work Wikieleak are doing

And we see to need Wikileak more than anytime before... If I had the servers, and the bandwith I would have been happy to let Wikileak on my servers... But I don't

7. I'm assuming the papers have all the files - they'll just have to come out on those sites now?

or are they going to try to shut down the NYTimes, Guardian UK, et al?

this is probably more of an annoyance than a stopping of the stories - once the UK & other European press got it, the chances of it getting hidden away are probably small to none

8. Let's see, the Patriot Act and Homeland Security destroyed the Fourth Amendment
and now the government is destroying the First Amendment.

I guess nobody is even bothering to pretend anymore.

It's the best we've got for now. At least until Wikileaks is fully up and running again.

WikiLeaks goes off-line after 'multiple' attacks
U.S. firm says denial of service attacks on site threatened nearly 500,000 others

msnbc.com staff and news service reports
updated 27 minutes ago

WikiLeaks went off-line late Thursday after a U.S. firm providing its domain name said the controversial website had come under mass denial-of-service attacks.

EveryDNS.net said it had "terminated" its services to WikiLeaks as the attacks and ones expected in the future would "threaten the stability" of the company's services to nearly 500,000 other websites.

WikiLeaks has been continuing to release classified cables sent by U.S. officials, causing huge embarrassment to diplomats and world leaders amid growing outrage and calls for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to be prosecuted under the U.S. Espionage Act.

A warrant for his arrest has been issued in Sweden in connection with alleged sexual offenses which he denies. His lawyers have denied reports he is hiding from the law at an unknown location in the U.K., saying he is lying low because of threats made against him.
