A Fable For Christmas
this is a true story, with a twist

Before The Hill And The Cross
A Christmas Allegory

"He's chasing fame." said Olig.

"Romantic hipster with other people's stories to tell." said Shmal.

"He is clearly brilliant and is a very deep thinker", remarked Victoria.

"What is important to those outside of his circle of family and friends is what he has DONE. And that is absolutely heroic and epochal", Caleb pointed out.

2. author's notes on the fable
It's a blatant metaphor, for sure, but I tried to disguise it until the postscript. Any astute reader will catch on after the first few quotes.

I will explain anyway, though. The way I envision the meaning of this story. I have of course been following the story of Wikileaks and Julian, and have great admiration for his abilities, intelligence, and courage.

Who among us would dare to take the chances he is taking? It is no David and Goliath. David had a sling, and a chance, and got a lucky shot. If Julian only had Goliath to worry about, I would not fear so much for his safety.

Various entities- states and police forces- have been announcing their intentions to capture and prosecute Julian Assange. Some people call for his execution for treason, which is absurd because it is impossible. Perhaps Civic 101 is not taught in American schools any more.

Because of the gathering of forces to bring down this courageous man, he is gradually running out of places to hide.

As this happens, his whole effort has been to reveal the dirty secrets of governments and military forces, to show us what our tax dollars pay for and how obscene is it. For this he is being hounded from place to place.

Suddenly, last night, I thought of Matthew 8:20, which according to the King James version of the Bible, says

"And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head."

I am not trying to say Julian Assange is Jesus. But the persecution of Assange is such that I thought, what might the citizens of 2,000 years ago have said, as the forces gathered against Jesus? And I saw that the quotes from people expressing thoughts about Assange would fit very well into an allegory.

It was a crime that Jesus, who many believe was the light of the world, was hunted, taken, and murdered. The same kind of fate is planned, by the same kind of people, with the hunt for Assange.

He does not have to be a holy man to not deserve this. As a man, no more or less than me, he does not deserve it.

But like Jesus, he is one man taking on the sins of the world, and may well be punished, even to death, for his temerity.

May the creative energy that binds us all protect him, may he not be made a martyr or a prisoner, and may those who would persecute him find something better than lust for murder in their hearts.
And if they do I will ask them to be my friends on FaceBook.

Thank you and Merry- oops, I don't know what I can say anymore. Happy Valentine's Day, then! Love is good.
