Democracy without transparency is not possible

If the idea behind Democracy is to place the sovereignty in the hands of the people then the people need to be informed. Without knowing what their nation is doing they cannot make informed decisions. Without that knowledge it just becomes a popularity contest with glossy marketing campaigns. The real issues fall by the roadside and every campaign promise has to do with saving the children or other such sensationalism.

We are in the position we are right now with this war because our government is not transparent. From not knowing what our leaders are doing to instigate the current conflicts to past actions of our government that may have given cause to others to be angry with us. We are in the dark.

Any decision we make is flawed because we don't know what is going on. Even those who try to stay informed cannot be certain they are dealing with the correct information. Rumors and innuendo rule the day.

We are fed up with our government because we no longer feel as though we are connected to the process. This is because we have been reduced to children who are told to trust their leaders. We are told they are doing what is best for us. We are being coddled and controlled. It is time for it to end.

To correct the course our nation is on we must demand transparency in the government. We The People must be informed if our sovereignty is to mean anything. If we are not informed then we are just subjects bound to the will of whatever information those in control are willing to let us have.
