Dept. Of Justice(Oregon) Lists 20 Worst Charities
Dec 9, 2010 9:40 a.m.

SALEM, Ore. -- It's the season for giving, but it seems some charities are being a little greedy.

The Oregon Department of Justice just released a list of the 20 worst charities of 2010.

Guidelines issued by the Better Business Bureau state charity organizations should donate at least 65 percent of their money and use no more than 35 percent for administrative and fundraising costs. However, the charities listed below fell farthest from that recommendation.

Every charity on the list operates in Oregon, but is not necessarily based here.

Each charity is listed with the amount of money generated and the percentage given to charitable programs.

All these charities solicit in other states in addition to Oregon.

2. I would edit to say: NATIONAL CHARITIES IN THE US

So that people didn't think it was just Oregon Charities.
Therefore giving your OP more attention that it deserves.

Kick and nominated

3. There is an excellent site run by the Better Business Bureau ...
that provides information on charities nationally. Take a look at www.give.org

If I'm not familiar with a charity, I always look at what they have in their reports. They use 20 standards to evaluate charities and have an alphabetical listing of charities that you can access.

It's a great resource and has prevented me from being scammed more than once.
