1. Is this the anonymous
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 02:32 PM by sharp_stick
associated with the 4chan group? If it is I would take anything they say, especially regarding motive and empathy with a major grain of salt.

4chan is the the asshole of the internet for a reason. Not counting of course the finding the lolcats and rickrolling.... why do I still find rickrolling funny?

5. I dunno, I'm inclined to take them at their word on this.

Tech-savvy people (ie, Anonymous) are very concerned about freedom of speech, especially vis-a-vis the internet, and this is a perfect example of governments around the world attempting to restrain it. Anonymous very much cares about freedom of speech.

That, and cats. God help you if you fuck with a cat and Anonymous gets wind of it.

7. They have some weird affiliation with cats
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 02:36 PM by sharp_stick
I should think a new form of pedobear needs to be invented to enhance anonymous and its weird love of feline life forms. ;-)

10. The strength of anonymous is also it's weakness
a lot of good ideas have been generated in that cesspool but the very nature of it's existence seems to always finally reduce the good idea to some weird form of performance art by the time it ends.

Think of DU and some of the flamewars that it's "anonymous" nature provokes. People tend to be a lot more "assholic" for lack of a real word when they don't see the object of derision as another human being. The lack of genuine consequences really feeds it. Most people would never say a lot of the shit they say if the person they were saying it to knew who they were and/or could respond with a punch in the mouth.

Anonymous is truly anonymous, there is no way to ever find the asshole that torments your kids for example. At least on DU a court order would pretty quickly provide a name. On anonymous there isn't any of that potential so it can really attract some degenerate assholes. These folks will usually burn out a good idea eventually if not just by spamming it to death by providing enough really bad press that the good idea is overwhelmed.

4. Todays been a little crazy with the Sanders Filibuster, so I think we can excuse it
At least this time. Thom's been managing the show as best he could today with everything that's been going on.
