"Anonymous" Defends Itself, Plans to Expose More Leaked Cables
The newly-press savvy "anonymous" known for "operation payback" just announced their statement of purpose in a press release (pdf link)--not to wreak generalized vengeful havoc, but rather to express dissent and solidarity with WikiLeaks.
Meanwhile a manifesto posted on file-sharing site 4chan urged members of the group to
switch tactics beginning at 9pm tonight. Instead of targeting corporate websites, the manifesto urged "hacktivists" to find underreported nuggets of information while sifting through the seemingly-endless WikiLeaks cables and expose them. "Post snippets of the leaks everywhere," the message read. Read the manifesto here, via techcrunch.
An excerpt from the press release is below.
"Anonymous is not a group of hackers. We are average Interent Citizens ourselves and our motivation is a collective sense of being fed up with all the minor and major injustices we witness every day.
We do not want to steal your personal information or credit card numbers. We also do not seek to attack critical infrastructure of companies such as Mastercard, Visa, PayPal or Amazon.
Our current goal is to raise awareness about WikiLeaks and the underhanded methods employed by the above companies to impair WikiLeaks' ability to function."http://dump.no/files/467072ba2a42/ANONOPS_The_Press_Release.pdf http://www.alternet.org/newsandviews/article/387109/%22anonymous%22_defends_itself%2C_plans_to_expose_more_leaked_cables/#paragraph3
